DinarUpdates.com Tuesday Nite Conference Call (05/15) - Poppy3 and BGG. 8:30pm CST 760-569-7699 Pin # 403978 (recorded version)
*** Flashback ***
UPDATE: The “flashback” for today goes all the way back to yesterday. Poppy asked on the call last nite…”Do you think Maliki will implement the items required and if he does not, will the “Fab Five” step up and take the next step towards removing Maliki.”? He also made the statement that he felt like the 15-day deadline was as much on ”The Five” as anyone.
My personal opinion is – if he were going to, he would have already. I doubt he will. I also think the ”Erbil Five” will have another meeting late this week (or weekend), right after the deadline is up and coordinate the next step. I don’t predict this whole process taking very long at all. We’re on the downhill side (finally)!!

If any of you doubt Poppy’s credibility or contacts – He just got his personal invite to the upcoming Oil and Gas Summit in Erbil, Kurdistan. I’ll scan it and put it on a blog soon. I am also personally aware of his FED contact – this it is a very serious contact with a pretty decent look at this thing. In fact, a separate source I have been keeping tabs on (from the FED) as well – has been pretty much right on and in “lock step” with Poppy’s info for a while now. They believe Maliki is on his way out as well. One “source” of contacts I have always been suspicious of is the UST – they are typically not reliable.
On another note – the trial of Tareq Al-Hashemi may well have a few twists and turns left in it. There are lots of things about prosecuting an official of this stature these guys have not thought out very well – other than Maliki could well end up in the same cell over not bringing charges in a timely fashion (whether they were bogus or not).
In any event, Poppy thinks we’re really close – the next 48 hours are crucial. 48 hours!! Dead or alive!!

A source close: Saleh al-Mutlaq will return to his post next week
Baghdad / Orr News
Revealed a parliamentary source close to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq will return to his work in the cabinet next week. He said, “that some political blocs was able to bridge the gap in views between the Prime Minister and his deputy, Saleh al-Mutlaq,” without mentioning those blocks.
The MP for the State of Law coalition Shaker Darraji said: “The issue of the Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq will be resolved shortly before the national meeting, by hand, within the National Alliance adopted a resolution of the issue.
The Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said yesterday in response to a question by a local publication that “the issue of his deputy, Saleh al-Mutlaq and viable political dialogue, but the issue of Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi, a lawsuit can not be included in any political dialogue.”
Al-Maliki, announced in December of last year, he will present a request to the House of Representatives to withdraw confidence from the deputy leader of the Iraqi List, Saleh al-Mutlaq, after al-Maliki described the latter as a “dictator.”
I already made some opening comments on this information – I do not believe these two guys can “live under the same roof” – if Al-Mutlag is in…Maliki is out. Al-Mutlag has made it clear - the only way he would come back is if there is a significant change in the government (ie – Al-Maliki).
Sadrists: Prime Minister and his coalition working to sow discord between the political blocs for fear of withdrawal of confidence from them
Accused the MP for the Liberal bloc, Mohammad Reza al-Khafaji, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and his coalition of state law, working to spread the seeds of division between the main menus to weaken it.
Khafaji said in a press statement that “al-Maliki and a coalition of state law, are trying hard, the distinction between the two Kurdish parties PUK and KDP, through ongoing meetings with President Jalal Talabani, and praise him.”
He added that Maliki and the coalition of state law as well as working on, to weaken the position of the Iraqi List, the shredded paper using Article 140 of the Constitution of the disputed areas, send messages to the effect that members of the Iraqi List, will hand over Kirkuk to the Kurds. ”
Of course they are. This is Maliki’s typical MO – his stock in trade for running a “minority government”. Divide the adversary and get them diverted towards anything but you. However, they are all catching on to his “gimmicks” and aren’t “taking the bait” like before. This is also where we get some of these outlandish Maliki statements – there’s no way he can do some of this stuff, he’s just trying to stir up some trouble for “cover”.
Maliki’s bloc denies talks to dislodge its leader and diminish the “alternative”
Twilight News / said the bloc led by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Tuesday, he had not been any talks so far on the ballot in the parliament to withdraw confidence and the removal of its leader, and reduced the importance of talk about alternative Candidate.
Maliki faces a probability of a ballot in the parliament have threatened to withdraw confidence if not carried out a series of claims about lifting his hand from the bullying, and solve problems with the Kurds.
A member of the State of Law MP Hussein al-Asadi’s “Twilight News” that “the issue of withdrawal of confidence from al-Maliki had not been discussed until now, which confounds the matter of the alternative.”
He pointed out that “the subject of withdrawal of confidence is the key theme and then comes the alternative,” noting that “the Sadrist movement, entrusted the task of withdrawing confidence from the al-Maliki to the National Alliance on the grounds that the trend is one of the components of the National Alliance.”
Asadi said that “the coalition meeting Monday night was to address the signing of the meeting (paper) 2 Arbil in a satisfactory manner to all members of the National Alliance.”
Asadi played down talk of an alternative candidate said, “How to choose the alternative by the subject of withdrawal of confidence was not discussed at all within the National Alliance.”
He urged Iraqi President Jalal Talabani repeatedly the need for dialogue and abide by the constitution and working papers shared the most recent paper Irbil agreed by the four leaders in the message window included eight demands.
Notice how they camouflage the title?? It’s “Maliki’s bloc” – and notice how they didn’t come right out and say “This is the SLC talking (Maliki’s private goon squad)” – they were trying to imply the National Alliance isn’t talking about ditching Maliki and that just isn’t true – because they are.
National Alliance has several candidates for premiership – lawmaker
BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Al-Ahrar bloc has expressed readiness to nominate several candidates for the premiership instead of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki after the end of the deadline given by Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, a spokesman from the bloc said in a statement on Monday.
“The bloc is ready to nominate more than a candidate for the premiership after the deadline al-Sadr announced on May 17,” the statement quoted Abdulhussein al-Husseini as saying.
Al-Sadr had sent a message to Head of the National Alliance Ibrahim al-Jaafari, in which he gave al-Maliki until May 17 to implement the Arbil agreement’s articles.
The Kurds and the Sunni-backed Iraqia political bloc have frequently accused Maliki’s government of killing the democratic process in the country by bids to gain more power. They also accused Maliki of evading his commitments to implementing the terms of the power-sharing deal, also known as Arbil agreement, he signed with rival political parties.
The deal, brokered in November 2010 in the Kurdistan region, paved the way for forming Maliki’s current partnership government after the Iraqi political rivals ended their differences that lasted eight months following the parliamentary elections on March 7, 2010.
It would not shock me for Talibani to be preparing to go into a National Conference Meeting without a Prime Minister (after an “abrupt” “no confidence” vote) and pick one (likely Jaafari) there, pick and declare the 3 final Ministers, form the NCSP board and have a multi-party decree about article 140 in one big swoop. This is typcially what is done at National Meetings.
Al-Iraqiya ready to convince al-Hashemi to stand trial
BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The al-Iraqiya bloc is ready to convince Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi to stand trial in Iraq if Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki implemented all articles of the Arbil agreement, spokesman of the bloc said on Monday.
“Al-Hashemi’s case became the core of the political process, and we believe in his innocence, so we are ready to convince him to stand trial and prove his innocence in case al-Maliki implemented all articles of the Arbil agreement,” Haydar al-Mulla told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
We in the al-Iraqiya are keen to calm down the situation for the sake of the Iraqi people,” he added, pointing out that some blocs are consulting with Iran in all Iraqi political files.
This deal is fully part of the “political wrangling” going on right now. They are convinced of his innocence – but only in an “impartial court”. There are also some other significant issues with the “viability” of this trial on a guy of this stature – I’ll touch on this later.
Withdrawing confidence from Maliki implies to Talabani and Nujaifi
KARBALA/ Aswat al-Iraq: Free Iraqiya MP Mohammed al-Da’mi declared today “it is impossible to withdraw confidence from Premier Nouri al-Maliki without doing the same to President Jalal Talabani and Parliament Speaker Usama Nujaifi”.
He pointed out that their nomination was made according to one-basket agreement.
Da’mi told Aswat al-Iraq that “such action will lead to political labyrinth and new conflicts with no end”.
He pointed out that his bloc does support such inclination, “but if it is done, it will include the three presidencies”.
This goes back to the concept I talked about earlier. However, it’s now Maliki trying to use the “fruit of the poisoned tree” argument. All these positions came from the Erbil agreement so they are all “null and void” – which now appears to be why they never opened that door. They don’t have to worry about it now.
The central bank continues to project delete the zeros is not entitled to the Council of Ministers suspended
Khandan – confirmed that the Finance Committee in the Iraqi parliament, said the Central Bank of Iraq continues his project to delete the zeros of the Iraqi currency with the introduction of the two languages by Kurdish and Arab, pointing out that he is not entitled to the Federal Cabinet interfering with the bank and stop this project.
A member of the Committee Deputy for the Iraqi List Jaber Al Jabri told the site “Khandan”: that the Central Bank of the rest of his work to delete the zeros of the Iraqi currency and the introduction of bilingual Kurdish and Arabic in which he said, adding not issued any statement from the bank to wait on this project, indicating the following: the General Secretariat the Federal Council of Ministers issued a statement about the project includes the patient in the deletion of zeros, even though the project from the jurisdiction of the bank.
Al Jabri said: What is the currency and traded in financial markets from the jurisdiction of the central bank because it has independent political cooperation with the Federal Government, and if there lingered delete the zeros statement issued by the Central Bank and not from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
Here is another point I have been making all along. The CBI is being cooperative – but they are autonomous. The Parliament doesn’t get a say in their affairs. Once things are politically stable – I believe Dr Shabibi will move very, very quickly. Parliament has been putting out articles about the 3 zero’s and currency projects – but they have no standing in the matter.
Here’s some interesting headlines…
National Alliance meets without Maliki presence
Oops…this was no good (for Malkik – great for us)!!
Najaf ready to host political leaders’ meeting
Kind of what I was pointing to during last nite’s call…
Motlak, Jeffrey discuss Iraq’s political impasse
Misspelled – Al-Mutlag…and what’s he doing talking to Jeffrey?? I thought he was in hiatus?? Or is he – Ha Ha!! Watch close!!
National Alliance supports Maliki’s govt. and NC, MP
So some portion of the NA is saying they will support Maliki through the National Conference (which they almost have to say). I bet once they get in the House of Parliament for the vote it’s a different story.
*** Rumor Comments ***
Rumor – The banks were showing a 17.00 rate live last nite.
Well – here we are today and there’s no live rate. Debunked (AGAIN!!).
There are three immediate reasons the rate won’t be this high…
1) The most espensive currency in the world is a little under 4 bucks.
2) Iraq doesn’t have the military structure in place to defend themselves from the instant war that would break out over currency and oil.
3) They don’t have to – they will attract all the 3 zero notes, investment and economy they need without a 17.00 currency.
These are just outlandish claims made to generate “web traffic”.
Rumor - There was a “no confidence” vote held in secret.
I was watching the Fox ticker over supper last nite. They carried info on the Al-Hashemi trial – ON THE FOX TICKER!! When this really happens you will see it on the US National news. Guaranteed. Have you seen it on the Nightly News yet?? Debunked!!
Rumor – The Guru’s are under a “self-imposed” blackout.
That may be – but it has nothing…and I mean NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS RV OR IRAQ. It is wildly arrogant for these goofballs to say they are having any impact whatsoever on this thing at all. That’s crazy. Debunked!!
If you find a crazy rumor or have a question about something you’ve heard – bring it to one of the Mods over at www.dinarupdates.com and we’ll use it here. Thanks!
