Defining who we are:   Values, Traits, and qualities for inner peace

I will always be who I am. I labor through some areas and wishfully master others. I remind myself often of the two sentences to live by.

(1)  Spoken words cannot be unspoken.  (2) We are defined by our own actions.

I try to treat others as I would want to be treated. Respect for others. Keep family close. Honor and respect your parents. Cherish friends. Choose words wisely. Laugh often. Listen more. Love always and unconditionally.

I expect these values/qualities of myself and look for these qualities when choosing friends. These are the qualities I go by to be at peace with God and for all of my actions that define me. If you only look for the worst in something or someone; then, you will most definitely find it.

I my opinion, I cannot go wrong with in friends; I can only go wrong with enemies. I choose to align myself with great people...my true friends. I believe that with these traits and qualities, I can find true peace within my inner soul.

It’s easy, right? Such values and qualities are common. These life variables can be easily spoken; but, very difficult to follow. For example: Honesty, forgiving, loving, giving w/o wanting anything in return, caring, helping just to help, inquisitive, knowledgeable, trust -worthy, humble, visionary, artistic, patient, tack-full in words spoken, thirsty for life, understanding, willing to learn , the ability to listen; this is rare trait, not all can do this. For you learn more when not speaking, and instead listen.

People are born non-judgmental and without a racist thought. Hatred and racism are a product of the family up-bringing and surroundings. Another motivator for pre-judgmental racism is the fear of the unknown. We, as adults, are the only ones responsible for the way our children act or behave.

Respect for all foreign cultures and their aspects: geography, language, food, arts, and traditions. Freedom for self and others should be globally recognized and understood as basic human rights.

Remember and honor those who sacrificed their short time on this earth to ensure that we were able to enjoy these God given rights and freedoms. All should be free to practice religion without persecution. Freedom of speech, free to have our own opinion, free to choose our own government/leadership in a democratic way, and these freedoms should apply to all human beings. Equality for all should be a human trait.

I believe in determination. I have zero quit in me. Doing it right the first time and not ever giving up were instilled in me during my youth; which were passed down to me from my parents.

I believe in giving everybody a fair shake; however, trust must be earned. I try not to be judgmental of others. I try to be more forgiving of others. I treat others the way I would like to be treated.

This is not a lot to ask of one’s self. Be true to yourself. Don’t pretend to be anything other than who you are. If you would not like to be treated like that; then, don’t treat others in that manner.

These traits, values, and qualities are mirrored in God’s Ten Commandments.

Live peacefully and love freely. Slow down and enjoy life. Our time here on earth is limited. Life is too short to go through it angry and selfish. It’s too easy being happy!
