Pairof2:My husband and I have been purchasing our dong at our local bank's smaller express branch for about three months. We purchase 1-2 million dong at a time. Between purchasing ours, and going in for others, we've been in about 10 times. The conversation between us and the tellers has always been lighthearted and funny; we've never told her the true purpose of our purchase.
I think she believes we have family there which is actually funny since we are tall, large people, and aren't fortunate enough to have even a hint of asian heritage in our genepool.
Well, yesterday, we went for a man, who has, up to this point , always laughed at my husband for his "investment". (Hopefully, THAT has been the holdup!!) Yesterday, the same teller took an unusually long time with the transaction, double checking all the figures, and then checked again. when she came back in, I asked if we were all set, and what would the exchange rate be ( i wasn't pushing for info, just wanted to pay).
She then told us, smiled, and quietly said... "I just purchased mine and it's about the same.". There's nothing new about foreign travel or foreign money exchange in our area because I live in an area where the majority of the populace is of european heritage 1st and 2nd gen;
BUT, this particular culture has absolutely no interest in other travel abroad other than to their home country. So for her to say this unsolocitedly was BIG!! Just a cute story!! and interesting...
