Here is a good read about what is happening in Iraq
"Under the Constitution, the election of a speaker starts the clock for the selection of other posts. Once the speaker is chosen, he has two weeks to name a president, which is done in consultation with other lawmakers
Within four weeks, the president then nominates a prime minister from one of the largest blocs. The prime minister then has a month to form a government."
"The complete process of filling all the posts and forming a government can therefore take as long as eight weeks, but it can also be sped up. International diplomats, along with the highest Shiite religious authorities in Iraq, including the five most senior ayatollahs, have urged Iraqi politicians to move as quickly as possible."
[Digs] FYI: The parliament has 30 days from the time it elected its speaker to pick a new president, and another 15 days to elect a prime minister.
Digs No it does not. Please read the NY Times artilcle
[redriver] FOX ticker - Jubouri voted in as Speaker of the House with 194 votes.
[redriver] CNN also reported Jubouri voted in as President of Parliament
[AJM0603] @5150 I read the Speaker of the House and President of Parliament already voted in.
[Digs] Iraq's constitutional timetable According to Iraq's constitution, the Council of Representatives was required to elect a new speaker during its opening session It must choose a president within 30 days of electing a speaker Within 15 days of the president's election, the largest bloc must nominate a new prime minister Under a de facto power sharing agreement, the speaker is a Sunni Arab, the prime minister a Shia Arab, and the president a Kurd After the 2010 elections, it took nine months to form a New gove http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-28309190
[sagefemme] Digs i think if they have 9 months they will use nine months...... mho
[Digs] On Tuesday, Mr Jabouri won 194 of the 273 votes cast in the 328-seat chamber. A second candidate, Shorouq al-Abayachi, received 19 votes. Allies of Prime Minister Nouri Maliki, a Shia Arab, had said the vote would only go ahead once a deal was struck between the main blocs on the nominees for the positions of Speaker, president and prime minister, which traditionally go to a Sunni Arab, a Kurd and a Shia Arab respectively.
[WCW] problum is we still dont know when rv will be released
[ByGrace] WCW As TexasMom says, "Zackly"... And today could be the day. The fact that we don't know doesn't mean anything more than that!!!
[WCW] ?is can it rv now are does it have to wait for the others to be elected
[WCW] shabibii always said when all the ministers are seated we would see an rv
ByGrace] WCW That is true. But respectfully, do we really think that we can believe everything we have read about what somebody else that we have never met said at some point(s) in the past? You are pointing out the real problem. We are all here trying to make concrete judgments on "jello" facts... It just is not that easy. We just have to wait and let it come to us. It is marching toward us, and we (because of the passing of time) are marching toward it!
[musiccitylady] WCW IMO nothing will happen unitl the Govt is fully functional, and when that will be is anyone's guess. And, it is ALL a guess concerning Iraq IMO
[Papa Bear] musiccitylady How do U know that it isnt fully functional now?
[Papa Bear] Folks we are only seeing what they want us to see. The email is your action ticket. The rest of this is just a show to keep us occupied and guessing
Papa Bear] The show works U up and lets U down .That is why so many of U are frustrated and worn out
