[tlm724] BAGHDAD — Islamic militants overran parts of Iraq’s second-largest city, Mosul, on Tuesday, driving security forces from their posts and seizing the provincial government headquarters, security bases and other key buildings.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki asked parliament to declare a state of emergency. The battle for Mosul was a serious blow to Baghdad’s attempts to tame a widening insurgency by a breakaway al-Qaida group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Earlier this year,
the group took over another Iraqi city, Fallujah, in the west of the country, and government forces have been unable to take it back after months of fighting.
In a nationally televised press conference, al-Maliki asked parliament to convene an urgent session to declare a state of emergency. “Iraqi is undergoing a difficult stage,” he said, acknowledging that militants had taken control of “vital areas in Mosul,” and saying the public and government must unite “to confront this vicious attack, which will spare no Iraqi.”
Under the constitution, parliament can declare a 30-day state of emergency on a two-thirds vote by its members, granting the prime minister the necessary powers to run the country

[tlm724] interesting, we should watch for updates on this, ty oldbarbie
[BondLady] timmy I wanted to talk for a few minutes about whats going on in Iraq right now.Terrorist has taken over several parts of Iraq that's why Maliki is calling for a state of emergency convening in parliament. He really does need to push the marshal law button at this point, they fled into Iraq from Syria . It's so bad right now the Kurds pershmerga army and the federal army have joined forces to protect the borders coming in from Syria.
[BondLady] you all know Kurds and Baghdad are at odds right now so you know this is huge and major important to Iraq's security
[tlm724] right thats big them joining forces, must be bad
[BondLady] if they don't all join up to save Iraq it'll be bad bad
[tlm724] Source: the escape of more than 1,400 prisoners from the prison Badush Nineveh Agencies -
[BondLady] thats another thing right there timmy
Maliki sent 2 regiments of the pershmerga Kurd army to go and move like 1400 prisoners from that jail because daash has taken over like 7 lil subdivisions there already and fears of them storming it and releasing them made Maliki call on pershmerga to step in an help.
[BondLady] some reports say officers just left the prisons unattended and fled and some officers supporting daash too, so this is a huge move
and as far as I can tell they got them moved but defiantly something we should keep a eye on
[BondLady] Najafi and his brother the governor of Nineveh I think, he barely made it out as 100's of daash stormed it and captured many so as Iraq army is in process of securing all that, Najafi bs all he's said all along is to get the army's out of the city's . Well since him an Allawi and Hasemi got them into Iraq to cause harm to the government of Maliki, once you invite evil in evil grows and thrives. Now its a lil too late for Najafi to finally say to Anbar please support the army in the fight of terrorism
[BondLady] I hope those 3 hang for treason and are held accountable for all the innocent lives lost
they deserve to hang by Saddams rope
[tlm724] agree !
[BondLady] so their calling for the UN to do something to help them send more weapons. Arm the clerics so they can have their guards fight as well and they are doing that too, many clerics and people in power in street clothes walking around with guns searching for them and helping the army finally, all standing together despite their hate and differences to free Iraq of terrorism
[BondLady] daash stormed the university college in Mousol and captured 70 students and are still holding them captive right now and they have taken over a police station there too
[BondLady] it's pretty bad right now I expect to see the UN or USA come in at any time to aid in the fight, it is that bad imo, we shall see
[BondLady] sorry just trying to keep you abreast without the hype of whats actually going on in Iraq today. thank you all.
