Samson:  Again .. Iraq without the Internet

5th November, 2019
Internet service was cut again this afternoon in Baghdad and several Iraqi cities. This comes within a few hours after the service returned on Tuesday morning after the interruption of midnight, at a time when the country is witnessing a wave of bloody protests.

The Iraqi authorities did not give an explanation for the reason for the interruption. Iraqi authorities have previously cut Internet services in the face of a wave of protests.

On Monday, at least five people were killed after Iraqi security forces opened fire in Baghdad on protesters, thousands of whom continued to rally in the biggest wave of anti-government protests in decades. Violence against demonstrators killed more than 250 Iraqis in the demonstrations, which began at the beginning of October, in protest against a government they see as corrupt and ordered by foreign powers.   LINK

Samson:  Iraq is asking for UN support in four aspects

2019/11/5 16:44

Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim met with the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jenin Blaskhart.

During the meeting, they reviewed the overall security and political events, the UN support provided to Iraq, and the government's actions in meeting the demands of the demonstrators.

"It is important for the United Nations to play a role in supporting and assisting Iraq in the various aspects: (humanitarian, security, political and service)," Minister Hakim said in a statement. And the price of "efforts by the United Nations in the framework of support for Iraq, and to achieve stability in it."  LINK

Rommy:  IMO the UN needs to meet the demands of the citizens and remove all Iranian influence out of the Iraq government, and warn Iran to never cross that line again.  Isn't it time the UN finally does something good in this world?

Fuze:  IMO This is the development I've been waiting on.  The UN is the only institution that the demonstrators have confidence in. Now that the formal request has been made; the UN can now through its security council present and pass a Crisis Ending Resolution, with a very specific rational set of actions that the demonstrators can agree with,  and the PTB would have no choice but to agree with or face chapter 7 then the gallows... Prayerful
