Friday News Summaries and Commentaries
Friday is starting out like a bit of a quiet day....as one might expect for a Holy Day....but we know things can change at the blink of an eye....we did see quite a bit of good news yesterday.
Iraq's problems and the implementation of laws and results
I have to admit this article took me several readings to even begin to think I understand what they are trying to say...and I'm still wondering....but 8 years of mismanagement (to put it politely) cannot be changed overnight, and change has been the order of things since September last year when PM Abadi took over.....
There has been monumental change in all aspects of Iraqi government, from the President, PM, COM, Parliament, Justice system, and implementation of some things that have turned heads and gotten attention as well....such as the Integrity Committee, the calibre of ministers that Abadi sought, the insistence on integrity and accountability at all levels....on top of all this they have had to clean up the mess that the former government left across every aisle of the store and fight DAASH terrorists all the while battling along with the rest of the world falling oil prices, which has left Iraqi coffers basically empty.....not an easy road for a new government to take....but just an observation on my part about this new government.....yes I do think highly of them, you should know that by now.......
Stop and think...since they took office back in September they have not belly-ached or complained about what they discovered in their laps one time....they took what they found and ran with it....cleaned it up as necessary, rewrote things as they had to, grabbed responsibility by the horns and clung to it....they go after the former leaders that are proving to have been corrupt, they stand tall to be held accountable for their actions....instead of hiding like the former leaders tend to do...this government is earning respect....R.E.S.P.E.C.T......do I hear Aretha warming up.
Abadi "broadcast" good news for retirees
PM Abadi met with various retirees and agrees about the importance of reducing red tape issues regarding their ability to retire and receive appropriate payments on a timely schedule....after all these citizens have given a large part of their life as worker bees and it is time now for the nation they served to provide them with a decent means of living in retirement.....more wrongs being righted through laws and legislation to be amended and applied to the country.
Oil plans to construct a pipe linked to northern Africa
Iraq will soon be constructing an oil pipeline through Jordan and Egypt and on into other North African countries....increasing their potential for exports to these countries as well as opening up new potential ports where their oil can be shipped overseas from.....at the current time the Oil Ministry is involved with investors who have the potential to fund such an undertaking....
I've said this before.....look at the companies that helped the Kurds build their pipeline to Ceyhan, Turkey....it works, it rarely is shut down due to terrorist activities.....they know how to do it right.....especially since Anbar will be the starting point for this pipeline....if ever safety and security were important they would be here.....here is an odd thing I've notice over the years....they talk about building pipelines from one place to another, they often mention distances....but they never talk about the size of the pipe....or the capacity of the pipeline....just odd.
Muthanna: claims to establish a special body to manage the oil wealth in the province
Muthanna province....are they on the oil road map....well it appears they are about to be....or want to be....they are claiming there is vast quantities of oil...maybe they haven't chased oil in this area much in the past due to security issues....but the times....they be a changing....and for the better....this to me also signals yet another province that recognizes that wealth is coming to Iraq soon and they want to be as involved with it as possible.
Sadoun: House of Representatives soon will read legal parties and the Federal Court a second reading
A member of the Legal Committee is saying that Parliament will soon be reading for the second time, the Political Parties Law, as well as a second reading of the Federal Court law.....President Masum called the Legal Committee and lit some fires....no more 2 hour 2 martini lunches.....get some work done....now.
High Nassif criticized the silence of politicians towards the Kurds annexation of the liberated areas of the region to Daash
A member of the State of Law coalition is barking that the Kurds are trying to claim too much real estate as they continue to defeat DAASH groups....is this all you got.....is this your best shot.....maybe the Kurds deserve some consideration for their efforts and how their people are put in harm's way getting this real estate back out of the hands of these thugs....who allowed them in the country in the first place...the leader of your party....had he not been so interested in stuffing pockets with loot he might have had an army that would have stood and fought rather than turn tail and run.....oh of course, they did so at his insistence....but forgive such a minor detail.....bring your best game to the table.
Significant progress for the Liberation of the eastern regions of the vine in Anbar
Efforts are underway within Anbar to expel or exterminate the DAASH vermin that have been camped there for quite a long period of time....first efforts have been successful in many ways.
Oil and water balance in the economy of the Kurdistan Region
At least some within the Kurdistan recognize that oil will not be king forever....especially as efforts are made to increase the extraction of oil today it will lead to quicker depletions of reservoirs in the future....only stands to reason...there is a finite supply....so today let us begin to search and research ways to find alternative sources of energy be it from water, wind, solar or what have you.....start the cycle today that will see tomorrow's progress in an effective direction.
Consultant Abadi: Budget approved the payment of the oil companies or vouchers treasury bonds
Dr. Saleh confirms that the 2015 budget allows for the issuance of bonds to oil companies up to the amount of $12 billion dollars....this can be done by request of the PM or the Minister of Oil authorizing the Minister of Finance to make this so.....such money will go towards covering entitlements of these companies.... the time period of such bonds remains a question it seems.
Iraq did not provide Jordan with crude oil in 14 months
Fourteen months Jordan did not receive oil from Iraq....due to security issues.....this oil had been trucked but security grew to be such an issue that the operation was shut down due to safety concerns for the drivers....the completion of the pipeline mentioned earlier would kick oil deliveries back to Jordan again.
The day of departure .. Mladenov flirts Abadi and Aatrahm at the time of al-Maliki
As the UNSC representative prepares to leave Iraq having served his allotted time in the position, he points to positive steps and measures taken by PM Abadi and his government in the short time they have been in office.....saying that they have bridged many gaps that were made by the former government, especially with neighboring countries but also within Iraq itself between both political and religious groups, he leaves an Iraq that he says is poised to move forward in a positive fashion becoming stronger because of their efforts today to remove terrorism as a threat to their country and people while they strive to become greater leaders in the world with their natural resources they have to offer.
Consultant Abadi: We set great hedges any surprises oil prices and the priority of the security and salaries
Dr. Saleh talking yet again....this time concerning how Iraq is facing issues with oil prices head-on.....they are involved with a massive undertaking that involved the reduction of unnecessary expenditures but still are making sure that basic necessities are taken care of to defend Iraq in the fight against terrorism while at the same time securing the livelihood of Iraqi citizens to include salaries....he claims that Iraq is believing that oil will continue to improve price-wise....
but at the same time Iraq is taking other necessary measures to spotlight their private sector and other industrial sectors within the country to take away some of the pressure on oil at this time.....I do not believe we have seen all they intend to do with regard to the falling oil prices or their ability to kick other industries into gear to pick up some of the revenue slack for the country.
Environment launches campaign to rationalize water consumption in collaboration with UNICEF
The Iraqi Environmental Ministry is looking for ways to preserve their water resources and keep them from being polluted while at the same time reviewing rationing of water options.....this is done in coordination with UNICEF....together they are trying to put procedures in place that assure potable water for areas where it is difficult to come by.
Legal adviser to the president of the region: it is time for Iraq's accession to the International Criminal Court
The Legal advisor to the Kurd President is stating that it is time for Iraq to become a part of the International Criminal Court, especially so because of their battles with DAASH terrorists.
Deputy speaker: 28 countries support free Kurdistan
Nearly 30 countries have stated they are supportive of a Kurdish state should the Kurds decide to declare independence from Iraq....however there are still some big international players who would likely turn their back on the Kurds should they take steps towards independence.....such countries as the US and France state that the important issue in front of the Kurds today is fighting against terrorism not seeking independence.
Legal obstacles to the transfer of powers to the provinces
As with any transfer of power some things can be done with little effort at all....deciding who buys toilet paper and paper clips and such...and who will be responsible for the storage of the same....but other more complicated issues face certain legal obstacles that slow things down.....maybe up to 50% of the transfer is happening today....but some of the effort must come through amendments to provincial related laws and these are being dealt with as quickly as possible.
Amedoa calls for Parliament offices in the provinces of approaching people and listen to their demands and resolve
There is a call out to the Speaker of Parliament to install some kind of a process that will allow voices to be heard in Parliament about legitimate concerns and show signs of progress on such claims where it is warranted....the province of Karbala is used as an example where they have established free clinics that provide legal assistance to citizens....this and other such efforts should be focused on the citizens and how to make their voices easier to be heard.
Babylon: Continue to lift the concrete barriers from the streets of the security stability in the province
The province of Babylon continues to see a reduction in organized crime across the province and as a result efforts continue to grow at removing concrete barriers from the streets allowing better access for the citizens.....curfews are also being lifted.
Parliamentary Energy reveal a new understanding in the implementation of the oil agreement between Baghdad and Erbil
An interview with the Vice Chairman of the Oil and Gas Committee that goes on and on and says absolutely nothing that is new....everything stated is from past interviews and past meetings that have occurred....new meetings are not set to happen until next week sometime.....but to keep everyone's attention in the right direction let us take your time up by working the old news.
Parliamentary Finance: The government would appeal in the "central" sales restrictions probably
Growing concern over the Finance Committee's action with Article 50 that puts a cap on the CBI auction of $75 million dollars per day......this along with other areas of concern within the budget is why COM gave PM Abadi the authority this last Tuesday to "challenge" articles and provisions of the budget...however.....something struck me here as I was reading this article.....
WHY IS THIS BEING PUT IN THE BUDGET....BUDGETS CHANGE FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT.....IF THIS IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT ISSUE AN CONCERN THAT THE CBI HAS NOT BEEN FORTHRIGHT IN HANDLING THESE AUCTIONS FOR THE PAST 10 PLUS YEARS WHY NOT MAKE A CHANGE TO THE LAWS OF THE CBI.....WOULD THIS NOT MAKE MUCH MORE SENSE.....
besides it alleviates the question about Parliament, especially the Finance Committee having the authority to put such things into their national budget.
Great place to take a breather......remember.....the BEST is yet to come!!!
