Tuesday Morning News Summaries
Cabinet sends a supplement to the budget includes compensation Anbar
A second amendment to the 2014 Budget has been submitted by the COM to Parliament. The total amount is something over a trillion dinar, but am unable to print that as the article is lacking the number.
They claim this is the reason for the budget not being passed, that it was still lacking...hogwash..
everyone that has an eye on Iraq knows of the reasons for the budget not being passed....it lies largely in the hands of Speaker Najafi who will not put the budget on the agenda for Parliament....as well as the bickering between the Kurds and Baghdad.

Urgent .. postpone the parliament session until further notice and hold a special next Thursday on the crisis Anbar
Today's Parliament session was cancelled due to lack of a quorum, they will meet again on Thursday in a special session to discuss the situation in Anbar and have invited the Minister of Defense and Maliki to the meeting. It seems that everyone is agreeable for this meeting except for a bloc of State of Law MP's.
Premier Barzani: Kurdistan Will ‘Not Back Down’ Over Constitutional Oil Rights
A meeting was held in Sulaimani with Barzani in attendance. They had much discussion over the issues between the Kurds and Baghdad, still not finding any common ground between the two.
The Turkish Foreign Minister was also present during this meeting and reiterated the positive relationship the Kurds have developed with Turkey, stating that the Kurds are equal citizens.
Baghdad’s “Financial Blockade”
The rhetoric continues almost unchanged from one day to the next. The Kurds are up in arms, they are not at all satisfied by what Baghdad is offering to them, or so we are led to believe by this author.
It makes me wonder when he might have penned this article, because even earlier articles have indicated that only one issue remains unresolved between the Kurds and Baghdad....we need to be careful of what we read and consider the source.
Where are the advantages and disadvantages of entering Iraq to the World Trade Organization?
A very intense article that speaks to the pros and cons of Iraq's ascension into the World Trade Organization. As with anything of this nature there are always good things and bad to be found, but it would seem the good does outweigh the bad.
The requirements that Iraq faces will only serve to bolster their global trading ability which will have a positive domino affect on their local trade as well.
It should put more people to work in time, thus helping the economy to prosper for all involved. Dr. Mohammed Saleh also wrote a paper for this meeting where he states that there are still many facets of economic freedom for Iraq to move through. This is something that Iraq seeks and is working towards acheiving.
Sources expect the first reading of the draft budget in the session Alonbaralastnaúah
A source from within the Parliament claims that for the Thursday meeting that in addition to discussion on Anbar, there will be the first reading of the budget. I find such a "source" as highly unreliable at this point....
I have peeked at the calendar and see no agenda mentioned yet for the Thursday session of Parliament. Najafi keeps bringing up old news that is meaningless at this point....he has made no real effort to include the budget on an agenda since before February.....shaking my head.
Albzona: Cabinet sent new amendments to the budget by one billion and 250 million dollars
The COM has provided an amendment to the budget that provides for $1 billion dollars to be allocated to the Anbar emergency and another $250 million dollars to go to the Kurdistan....this would raise the deficit to over 36 billion dollars.....
there are expectations of the budget being on Parliament's agenda for next week for approval.....is anyone holding their breath on this....I hope not.
MP Haitham al-Jubouri (time): Iraq is losing three billion dollars a month and unable to pay for weapons
Yes Iraq says it is losing $3 billion dollars a month by failing to pass the budget....there are untold effects that occur on Iraqi citizens as a result of the budget not passing as well. It is incredible the number of articles out, and with the exception of a few minor changes...they all spout the same old tired news about the budget and its issues.
Tripartite meeting in Amman to discuss extending Iraqi oil pipeline
Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt will be meeting this week to discuss final details of a pipeline that will push oil from Iraq thru Jordan and into Egypt.....this pipeline will originate in Basra....eight companies have submitted bids for the construction work, but no contract has been formulated as yet.
A quarter of a trillion dinars for oil companies in Kurdistan
Similar article as posted earlier about the monies dedicated to the Anbar province and to the Kurdistan....this article does indicate that the monies going to the Kurds is to be used for the oil companies operating in the region.
Barzani: We have the right to use our natural resources
Barzani speaking in Sulaymaniyah says that the Kurds have a right to their natural resources, that their people need and require access to food....he adamently is against the blockage that Baghdad has placed on the Kurds by withholding their share of the budget to be paid for salaries.
Proposal to merge small banks and the formation of a development bank shareholder
The Finance Committee is proposing that small local banks merge in order to meet the capital demands of the CBI, 250 billion dinars. There are currently 5 banks that the CBI is threatening to withdraw the licenses of these banks for their inability to raise their capital to required levels.....perhaps a merger would be best.
Kurdistan calls for the government to re-budget
Now the Kurds are calling upon the COM to address the budget again since with this latest amendment they obviously are not finished with the budget as yet.
This just sounds like yet another delay tactic to keep this from moving forward.....plus I find it ironic the individual mentions nothing of the money given to the Kurds at the same time.
Government agrees to ratify the agreement between Iraq and Kuwait
The COM has passed a draft law pertains to Kuwait....and investment opportunities becoming improved for each nation and individuals as well. It must be approved by Parliament.
Here is this mornings news summaries.....I have some errands to run and will be back to finish up this afternoon. Randy
