Calls for the creation of a twinning between local banks and foreign
The Finance Committee from Parliament is asking the CBI to create a bank of twinning between local and foreign banks to promote Iraqi banking....in fact the committee demanded this effort by the CBI....
it should prove interesting to see where this "demand" goes.....the committee also wants this effort done ahead of any development of the Iraqi banking system....not sure who it is in the committee that is calling for such action...but give it a few weeks and watch the results...IMO.

Japan gives Iraq a loan of 380 million dollars to develop the port of Khor Al-Zubair
Japan offers Iraq $380 million dollars to develop one of their ports. They are also granting another loan for $500 million dollars for refinery work. These loans are soft loans with an interest of less than one percent, payable in 40 years. This ties both countries together for many years to come.
Mass resignations of Liberal MPs from parliament
A number (could be 3 or more, not sure) of MP's resigned today from the Liberal bloc....I shouldn't say this but....I will....wooohooo. So if this is true....these guys can just pick up their pencils and paperclips and walk away....what happens to those lucrative pensions they just voted for themselves...
.something smells here....let's give this a day or two to hang out to dry and see if the shirts come back all nice and starched or not.....doubt-meter is running a bit high.
Nassif: Speaker courting the Kurds to prevent reading the budget
I find this article a bit interesting as I get into it.....first there appears accusations against Speaker Najafi for not putting the budget on the agenda.....so is it the Kurds problem or is it Najafi that is using the Kurds.....I don't think there is a great deal of love for this guy....even amongst his own bloc.
There there is something that could very easily be overlooked here.....there is a brief mention of the use of "bonds and loans" to cover the deficit.
Here is someone....a MP....that understands what is coming....she also understands that to get beyond first base....they must have a first reading of the budget bill....get that done....stop delaying...
.she believes that the true delay is coming from the Coalition are United bloc, the one that Najafi heads....sounds like a smart woman.
Parliamentary delegation headed by Najafi to Iran tomorrow
I can spell boondoggle.....why on earth do these knuckleheads need to go sight-seeing in Iran....when they don't have their own homework finished yet.....put a stop to this nonsense and stay home and take care of business. Iran...listen up...
if you are smart you will not want these guys anywhere near your guys....it is highly likely that something may rub off and you will have to pay the price for the elbow-rubbing that transpires.
Improvement of the currency and increase imports of oil cut inflation
Increased oil revenues and stability of the Iraqi currency has contain the overall inflation rate....comparing January 2014 to January 2013.....
key areas that have witnessed increases in this time are Department of Housing and non-alcoholic beverages. Inflation appears to remain in single digits. Leave things to the CBI if you want them kept under control.
Six of the Sadrists withdraw from political work in solidarity with their leader's decision
Well well here is another document that says that six members of the Sadrist bloc have also resigned from Parliament....what is up with these guys.....
can't they handle the pressure and stress of so many holidays and great pensions that they just voted for themselves....or do they fear reprisals coming because of the way they voted on the pensions.
If we get many more resignations they may have to look toward the janitors and kitchen help to get a quorum.
Open the U.S. door to the Kurds
Nothing new here, the Kurds are mad at the Obama Administration for not clearing the way for Barzani and group to visit DC recently and have made noise to the point that now Congress is crawfishing backwards to get a bill pushed forward to get the Kurds off the Tier III terrorist list.....something that Obama will surely support.
IMF chief Christine Lagarde urges Australia to help G20 make financial reforms
It seems that IMF chief Legarde is calling upon Australia to help the G20 group come to some agreement on their upcoming meeting in Australia regarding financial reforms. The meetings will focus upon economic growth....but emerging market issues could take up much of the time.
Parliamentary bloc: the continuation of the political debate about the budget does not justify the postponement of parliamentary sessions
People with a brain are starting to wake up to reality I think. The budget bill is important but it is not everything....there are other things that could be worked on and voted on.....
but there is that thing about a quorum that holds everyone up....these guys need to incur a fine if they walk out or boycott Parliament so as to impede progress....that might get them back to the table post-haste.
Iraq agrees "officially" on an oil pipeline across Jordan
Ok, I'm not the sharpest pencil in the drawer.....but Basra has a means of exporting all kinds of oil thru their offshore tanker loading facilities....plus I believe they have some capabilities at the refineries and storage facilities on shore at or near Faw...may be mistaken on the town name.....
and now they want to build a pipeline through Jordan to the Red Sea coast.....how can that be economical for them....there are fees associated with pipelining.....
you take oil from a oil seaport and pipeline it how many miles to yet just another seaport.....this just provides terrorists with more opportunities to disrupt things....just over 1,000 miles of opportunity....shaking my head.
Transparency International: parties, parliaments in the Middle East and North Africa the most corrupt in the world
Parliaments and party blocs in the ME and in North Africa are some of the most corrupt in the world....does that come as a surprise to anyone here.....I seriously doubt it......my question tho is wonder where they learned their corruption from.....that could prove to be an interesting musing.
Parliament sends a pension law to the Presidency of the Republic
Speaker of the Parliament, Najafi sent the Unified Retirement Law to the Presidency of the Republic....I assume that went to Talabani or someone sitting in his office chair for the time being. There is still discontent regarding a couple of articles in the law that pertain to the presidency's and MP's getting pensions....but it has been voted on and now pushed forward.....guess any changes will have to be taken up in Federal Court.
The government Tuesday to discuss the repercussions of the decision of the central bank monopoly on currency
The CBI will be on the agenda of the weekly Tuesday meeting of the COM this week, talking about the actions of the CBI of pulling IQD in from banks in the country and stipulating the banks make hard currency deposits with the CBI and then being forced to wait 2 weeks to participate in any auctions......just wait...bide your time....and you will see good results....2 weeks is not an eternity....
and if you play Words with Friends it goes by even quicker....Turki says the CBI has everything under control....give them some breathing room to let things develop....IMO....they should be listening to Shabibi.....he knows even more so than Turki what is going on.....just be patient.....they do everything for a purpose.
Barzani postpone the visit to Baghdad
So there better be a valid excuse for this hiccup.....and I'm not reading any from this short article....just calling up and saying I'm not coming is not good enough.....
people's lives are at stake with what you boys are discussing.....belly up to the table and talk....how unprofessional to just say I don't think I'll come to this week's meetings....especially without having a new date set......I still highly suspect that all the details are done.....they just need to do this "posturing" to show who is who.
Iraqis are paying the price war sparked by al-Maliki in Anbar
Well things are not going strictly according to hoyle, things are not going well in the fight against terrorism and general violence in Iraq....yes al-Maliki needs to spend more time talking to the Sunni tribesmen.....but I also see Maliki's side of the coin in not negotiating with terrorists....
that is just bad mojo to do that....a certain weakness. Innocent people are going to be hurt and even killed, especially when these coward terrorists use them as human shields.....
it becomes a no win situation for the Army....but the rebels must be repressed....at the same time the Sunni tribesmen deserve attention as well.....a certain give and take needs to take place.
Maliki calls for united to send an amnesty law to the parliament and pledges its endorsement within two weeks
Maliki is calling for the United bloc...which Speaker Najafi heads....to send an amnesty law to Parliament and pledges that it will be greased through parliament in two weeks....wow...
if he would only make the same commitment to the budget too. Maliki is making concessions to the Sunni's in this action, but it appears they may be replying....too little too late.....try again.
U.S. report: Iraq as part of the main oil producers in 2040
New US report sees Iraq as a major player in the production and exportation of oil all the way to 2040.....in my mind that is expected......they have so many untapped and uncharted areas for potential oil....I believe the world may be surprised one day of all the oil that will be pulled from underneath Iraq.....they just need to push full speed ahead to get infrastructures up to date.
Deputies: Maliki has not visited Anbar even visited a military base about 150 km from Fallujah, with a curfew and cutting off communications!
Did these deputies not look at M's schedule for the weekend....or did he truly not set foot in Anbar on Saturday.....well they are saying that he didn't get within 150 km of Fallujah....
so his visit didn't count.....smacking my head.....some tribesmen refused to speak to him because they fear procrastination and a lack of interest on M's part.
MP's from the Anbar region are making all kinds of accusations towards M's efforts from a military standpoint....even to the point they believe he will want to postpone the elections.
Reduction of dollarization is one means of monetary policy reform
Oh good, now we are talking of dollarization.....this will strengthen the monetary policy of Iraq.....more tools and pieces of the puzzle falling into place here for the good of Iraq...
.IMO. It was noted in the article that the confidence in the IQD remains strong....they need to be weaned from the dollar to allow them to lean more heavily on the IQD as the "go-to" currency for the country....give this some time....it will play out in a positive fashion.
Deputy: the central bank action on banks will contribute to the stability of the dinar
There is at least one MP that sees the actions that the CBI has been taking in gathering and sucking in IQD from all Iraqi banks as a positive measure for the stability of the market and the currency.....they just need to suck up the street vendors as well....time will make this work out just fine.....they need to Keep The Faith.
Parliament: sessions will continue until adoption of the budget
I tell you Family....these contradictory articles are getting really wild.....first the Parliament wasn't going to meet until the could talk about the budget....then the Speaker and a group jump up and run off to Iran on a boondoggle....now they are going to meet despite not having the budget done.....
where did all the MP's go that resigned.....how in the heck will they ever know what a qualified quorum even looks like now.....I've said it before and here it comes again....someone with some clout needs to hold the MP's feet to the fire and get some work done.
Parliament: Iraq will face a fiscal deficit of 35% of the budget due to retirement and petrodollars
So they went from a 50% budget deficit down to now 35%.....how did they pull that one off.....who do you believe anymore.....is there an honest MP among the bunch....probably the ones that resigned today......I smell the way being paved for government bonds to cover this deficit.
Barzani's visit to Baghdad today and meet with officials in the federal government
Ok, I would like to think this article has some validity to it.....that Barzani did indeed show up in Baghdad today.....that other article is just a bunch of mush.....
we will need to keep a close eye on this to see what did transpire.....one article says no...one article says yes.....I'm leaning towards yes....although this article doesn't say "they met".....just says the Kurds will visit today....have patience and keep watching for more.
That is a wrap up of today's news summaries......thanks to the News Hounds for the great news today. *** Randy
