[millionday] Today, senior representatives of the governments of the United States and Iraq held the inaugural meeting in Washington of the United States-Iraq Council on Trade and Investment (TIFA Council), which was established under the United States-Iraq Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).
The dialogue under the TIFA reaffirms both governments’ commitment to increase bilateral trade and investment. Both governments place strong importance on broadening their strategic partnership beyond military and security ties.

[millionday] Today’s meeting demonstrates the continuing close cooperation between Iraq and the United States on economic, trade, and investment issues. U.S. – Iraqi cooperation in these areas is aimed at further integrating Iraq into the global economy and thereby creating jobs and attracting investment in both countries.
In that regard, the United States expressed its continued support for Iraq’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the two governments discussed ways for Iraq to advance its WTO accession process.
[millionday] During today’s TIFA Council meeting, representatives from Iraq and the United States discussed business development and trade diversification with an emphasis on trade and investment cooperation in the following sectors that are quickly growing in Iraq: agriculture; electric power; housing projects and infrastructure; water, sewage, and sanitation; roads and bridges; engineering; metallurgical and petrochemical projects; light and heavy industry;
and health, financial, and educational services. Iraqi representatives explained that Iraq is making important progress to facilitate the importation of goods into Iraq and to ensure that U.S. companies can participate in Iraqi government procurement tenders by reducing unnecessary documentation requirements

[millionday] here we go >>>. Section V: Cooperation in the fields of economy, energy To build a prosperous economy and a diverse and growing in Iraq, and is integrated into the global economic system, and is capable of providing basic services to the Iraqi people,
and to welcome the return of Iraqi citizens living outside the country at the moment will require capital investment is unprecedented in the reconstruction and development of Iraq's natural resources and human excellence, and the integration of Iraq into the global economy and its institutions.
To this end, the parties agree to cooperate in order to: 1. Support Iraq's efforts to invest its resources for economic development, sustainable development and investment projects in the improvement of basic services to the Iraqi people.
[millionday] 2. Perpetuate active bilateral dialogue on measures to increase the development of Iraq, including through dialogue on economic cooperation, and the Convention on Trade and Investment Framework when it enters into force.
3. Promote the expansion of bilateral trade through dialogue, the U.S. trade - Iraq, and bilateral exchange programs, such as trade promotion activities, and access to programs Export-Import Bank.
4. More support from the merger of Iraq in departments, financial institutions and regional and international economic, including membership in the World Trade Organization, as well as by the continuation of normal trade relations with the United States.

[millionday] 5. International efforts to promote the development of the Iraqi economy and Iraq's efforts to rebuild its infrastructure and economic rehabilitation and conservation, including continued cooperation with the Foundation for private investment overseas.
6. Urged all parties to comply with the commitments made under the International Compact with Iraq, with the aim of rehabilitating Iraq's economic institutions, and increase economic growth through the implementation of reforms that lay the foundation for private sector development and job creation
[millionday] 7. Facilitate the flow of direct investment into Iraq in order to contribute to the reconstruction and development of its economy.
8. Encourage the development of the sectors of electricity, oil and gas in Iraq, including the rehabilitation of vital facilities and institutions, strengthening and rehabilitating Iraqi capabilities.
9. Work with the international community to help identify the whereabouts of the money and property of the family of Saddam Hussein and his regime, which was taken out illegally and restore, as well as smuggled antiquities and cultural heritage before April 9, 2003 and beyond.
10. To encourage the creation of a positive environment for investment in order to update the private industrial sector in Iraq to stimulate the growth and expansion of industrial production, including through the promotion of communication with the U.S. industrial institutions

[millionday] 11. Encourage development in the field of air transport, land and sea, as well as the rehabilitation of Iraqi ports and enhance maritime trade between the two parties, including facilitating cooperation with the administration the U.S. Federal Highway.
12. Establish an active dialogue on agricultural issues to help Iraq to develop its domestic agricultural production and trade policies.
13. To promote access to programs that will increase the productivity of each of the farms, institutions and marketing in order to achieve higher incomes and increased employment, and to continue to build on the successful programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the United States Agency for International Development in the field of agri-business and agricultural extension and participation in policy formulation.

[millionday] 14. Encourage increased agricultural exports of Iraq, including through participation in the formulation of policies, and to encourage exporters to educate Iraqis on U.S. regulations in the field of health and safety.
[millionday] now let me say this -- all of the economic development requires the reality rate for iraq`s economy and the monetary policy activated as we can clearly see -- this is why this week is very very exciting for all of us

[millionday] it is over the 7th and they have not said the date that it will be over because it is ongoing but it is to begin right away and has already with the many changes with the ports and the companies coming into iraq along with other trade
[millionday] also -- the US has stated this month they will be at the wto with Iraq which is all part of this agreement smile --here comes some more on this

[millionday] The United States hosted a top level Iraqi interagency delegation to participate in the March 3-7 Iraq Business Week activities in Washington D.C. Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Rowsch Shaways led a 30+ member public and private sector delegation to network with scores of major U.S. firms and explore expanding business opportunities in Iraq, now the United States' 27th largest goods trading partner.
The delegation – which included Iraq’s Minister of Trade and the Chairman of Iraq’s National Investment Commission – addressed trade and investment challenges in Iraq, and discussed external financing options and their potential to assist in Iraq’s development.
The trip culminated with a Ministry of Trade delegation visit to Houston, TX to explore establishing a trade facilitation office, and travel by the Deputy Prime Minister to New York City where he met with a number of additional U.S. firms.

High-level meetings with the Mayor’s office in Houston and the Bilateral U.S. Arab Chamber of Commerce to explore establishment of a trade facilitation office.
