Monday News Summaries and Commentaries
Sorry for being AWOL yesterday Family....but closer Family dictated my presence with them for the day. We have quite a bit of news to chew on today so let's dive right in.
Iraq, U.S. Are Divided on What’s Next in Battle Against Islamic State
As with any decision making process there are two sides to the story....there are pros and cons to be weighed with each side and their respective desires.....what matters the most is the final outcome....the elimination of ISIS terrorists from Iraq.....and the US needs to remember whose living room they are sitting in.....Iraq's.....
But the Iraqi's need to also weigh the knowledge the US offers when it comes to fighting terrorists from doorway to doorway.....they need to remember the fighting of Fallujah and Ramadi from 7 and 8 years ago.....what the US was able to do in those circumstances.....
Even with Maliki lurking around.....find the middle ground here and push forward from that.....be it Anbar or Mosul.....make the final decision the best that could happen under the circumstances.....bring your A team to the battle and accept no defeats.
Abadi in Erbil today to discuss the security and political task files with Barzani
PM Abadi was traveling to Erbil today to visit with Kurd President Barzani....they talked about security and political files that are important to both the Kurds and Baghdad.....Abadi comes to reaffirm the importance that the Kurds play in the political arena of Iraq......also to talk about the liberation of the Nineveh province which includes Mosul.....they discussed the oil and gas agreement stressing they are near an agreement to move forward and get beyond technical issues with the agreement....stressing unity between the region and Baghdad as critically important.
House of Representatives resumes today held its vote on the draft a number of laws
Parliament reconvenes today with a number of first and second level readings of laws.....hopefully they get through these lessor important drafts and laws and on to the more critical of laws that have greatest impact on all Iraqi citizens.....let this be so.
Iraq opens its markets for vegetables and fruits Jordan
I know this doesn't sound like Iraq is giving its own farmers much of a chance as they claim to be focusing upon their own agriculture and industrial needs....but change can be slow in coming and the people have needs for veggies and fruits so they lean upon Jordan for the time being.
Iraqi gold on the rise and financial parliamentary outweigh the stability of the dinar soon
Gold is on the rise monetarily within Iraq....meanwhile the Finance Committee believes the IQD against the USD will be stabilizing in the next few days....attributing this to procedures from the CBI being put into play.....new mechanisms.
Quality control refers to the elimination of 90 goldsmith for violating conditions
The Ministry of Planning has had issue with some goldsmiths with regard to quality control issues.....they admit that the large amounts of gold entering Iraq have hampered their teams efforts to monitor quality....but they have discovered upwards of 90 goldsmiths who are not maintaining strict standards of quality and are dealing with them as required.
Parliamentary economy: the issue of loans from state banks will be dealt with under the amended law
The Committee on Economy and Investment says that new amendments to the investment law will deal with issues of loans from state banks that have been problematic in the past.....again red tape is to be cut or eliminated as much as possible for investors as a way to draw them toward Iraq.....there needs to be clear cut procedures in place to be followed each and every time from a consistency standpoint so basically are are considered equal.....they are relying heavily upon the idea of amendment changes to bring about the end of corruption and red tape that has caused many headaches with Iraqi investment opportunities in the past....well show me the beef....put the law on the table and get it voted upon.
Services Committee Communications Commission hosts to stand on higher freight rates cards
The Services Committee is hosting a meeting this week to determine the reason for the higher costs of mobile phone being passed on to citizens......and wants to know why these rate changes are happening.....well you tax the company who deals in the phones to start with and they have no choice but to pass that cost along to the consumer.....fairly simple.....but supposedly that wasn't to happen....will be interesting to see how this issue evolves.
Baghdad and Erbil agree to form a joint operations room for the Liberation of Mosul
So Baghdad and Erbil have put their heads together and agree about having a joint operations center for the upcoming liberation of Mosul....this makes great sense as they both fight a common enemy here....sounds like further good coming from PM Abadi's visit to Erbil.
Parliamentary economy calls on the government to hold an international investment conference in Basra
The Economy and Investment Committee is calling for an international investment conference to be held in Basra to highlight their significant role in Iraq with regard to investment potentials as a maritime entity as well as a major hub for oil and gas activities....Basra has much to offer in regard to investment opportunities to the world.
Deputy for the National Adoption of the oil and gas law will set the oil policy in the country
A MP for the National Alliance Coalition states the obvious....adoption of the oil and gas law will resolve many dilemma's within Iraq, including the Kurdistan region....wooohooo....make it so number 1.....supposedly the law will find its way onto the upcoming agenda schedule for Parliament....they just don't say when....a true partnership needs to be developed with this law across all provinces for it to be fully effective.
Barzani assures Ebadi put all potential region at the disposal of the Federal Government
Kurd President Barzani assures PM Abadi that all Kurdish resources will be put at the disposal of the Baghdad government in the fight against DAASH to ensure they are routed out the region and out of Iraq once and for all.
Investigations about wasting $ 312 billion in oil revenues
Money continues to be allegedly discovered that was lost during Maliki's reign as PM....now another 312 billion USD/IQD?? anyone's guess at this point....but supposedly tied to oil so it could have been USD I suppose at this point....they believe it to have been transferred to neighboring countries through fraudulent vouchers.....ghost exchanges from the CBI that were then transferred to other countries.....a huge money laundering racket it seems and of course Maliki and his government looked the other way....but I'm sure their groveling hands were out for their portion of the booty.
Urgent Urgent .. Abadi: the budget is not enough money for all
PM Abadi admits there is not enough money in the budget coffers for everyone....surprise....not.....but it still leaves many disgruntled at this point in time.
Special privileges for companies investing
The head of the Securities Commission is looking at providing special privileges to those companies who wish to invest in the Iraqi Stock Exchange.....seeing this effort on the part of the companies as a means to improving the economy of Iraq and seeks to exempt such companies from taxation as well as providing other incentives for the companies.....this effort is largely focused on private sector companies across the board.
Kurdistan PM: KRG Oil Policy is a Success
Kurd PM Barzani sees their oil policy as being a success.....it has struggled though due to falling oil prices around the world.....he also congratulates PM Abadi on recent successes against DAASH.....reassuring support from France in their fight against terrorist activities.....he also applauded the help and military aid from 16 countries who have supported the Peshmerga efforts in their fight against DAASH.
Vice Kurdish: Baghdad has sent $ 45 million of the Peshmerga
Some say the Peshmerga were paid 45 million dinars....some say they weren't.....I guess it just depends on which meeting you happened to be sitting in or information you happen to be privy to at the time.....and the arguments and talks continue with regard to oil issues....how much has been exported and how much has been paid for the exports.....squawk squawk squawk.
Parliamentary power: the government did not send the oil and gas law to parliament after
I am not surprised at this latest revelation....the government has yet to send the oil and gas law to Parliament.....the government's own committee hasn't finished with it yet.....so what else is new.
Shammari: judicial fees law will maximize the public treasury of the state resources
So the employees within the Ministry of Justice will be able to live better and buy groceries for their families....what about the millions of other Iraqis....what about their well-being....when will they be voted upon to receive their bounty.....stop focusing upon just the government and look to the people....sorry but focus appears to be slightly off here IMO.
Calling a break here, need some new coffee and have to stretch my legs a bit.....enjoy this Monday as a God given day to each of us and rejoice in His love for us.
