More Sunday News Summaries and Tidbits of Commentaries
No the fluffy lady is not singing yet.....not even sure she is warming up....or that she is in the house.....but none the less we wait and watch what develops and unfolds over the next few hours.....the news continues to be interesting and maybe even a bit wild at times.....will the Kurds back Maliki.....don't believe so, they got burned after failed promises in 2010...it won't happen again....will the National Alliance "man up to the plate" today.....who knows....for that we wait.
Parliament to raise its current 19th of August
The President of Parliament.....the Speaker of Parliament got things kicked off today and basically stuck with the agenda that he had put forth....maybe not the agenda that President of the Republic Massoum was hoping for....but none the less the official Parliament agenda....talking about the report from the Committee on Displaced Citizens.....the interim committee that discussed the 2014 budget...and....the formation of permanent Parliament Committees....they had 230 MP's present for this work....no mention of the largest bloc....and definitely no mention of who would be the Prime Minister.
Urgent ... source: President told the political blocs that he will dissolve parliament if it is not present a candidate for prime minister today
An "unnamed" source....something that I do not put much stock in at this point......said or claimed that President Massoum has told political blocs today that he himself would dissolved Parliament if they did not come forth with a candidate for Prime Minister....again....according to this "source" President Massoum specifically spoke of the National Alliance needing to name a candidate for Prime Minister.....how much more loudly does this man need to say....National Alliance....you are the biggest bloc on the block....bring us a name or I personally will dissolve the Parliament on my own authority.....so did President Massoum really say this....no one knows....does he have the actual authority.....again at this point....that is unsure.....is he swinging with a big bat at the plate....it would seem so.
Source: Masum cost-Maliki to form the government and the Badr and independents withdrew their reservations upon
So the debate continues...who is the biggest....definitely Maliki thinks he is the biggest and definitely can cause the most damage if he does not get his way.....but the National Alliance seems to be hanging on as well...and President Massoum appears to want to give the NA leadership every possible chance to put a name on the table....someone that will be capable of replacing Maliki.....I'm just not sure the NA will find a "willing" candidate who does not feel threatened by Maliki's forces.....one way or another it would seem that the next few hours hold an announcement to be made....a decision...and the future of Iraq.
Province: Barzani told al-Maliki to approve all requests compared to the third term
Maliki is again telling the Kurds help me get another term and I will agree to all requests.....but this time the Kurds are smarter...fool me once....fool me twice....but try a third time.....no sir....it ain't going to happen.....not on our watch...will we ever agree to anything you put forth....just look back at the trail of broken promises and tears since just 2010....actions speak louder than words.
Jaafari meets to discuss Paljbura file the largest bloc
Talk of muddying the waters....there are too many individuals with President by their name to keep track of who is meeting who.....where is Abbott and Costello......I believe the President of the Republic, Massoum, met with Speaker of Parliament al-Jubouri, and National Alliance President al-Jaafari.....to discuss the "file cabinet" that I had mentioned in a previous post....supposedly the Constitutional period ends today on naming a candidate for Prime Minister.....does the National Alliance realize the seriousness of what they are facing.....all the while that Maliki makes noise of his own doing that State of Law is the biggest bloc.....but no one seems to be listening to him at this point.....but the greatest point....if they don't listen to Maliki...what are they doing to affect change?
National Alliance finally presenting the owners versus withdrawal: our candidate will be presented to the infallible Today
Members of the National Alliance bloc seem confident the NA will indeed present a candidate for Prime Minister within the next few hours.....in other words....today sometime....in fact by noon....well if they meant noon Iraqi time....that has come and gone and perhaps they are suddenly good at keeping secrets but no announcement has been forthcoming.....at the same time there are again talks from the Maliki camp about assurances of no prosecution for him or his henchmen....and possibly giving him a seat as a Vice President to Massoum, or Deputy PM....IMO....either might be a mistake....both would essentially keep his immunity intact for the time being....meanwhile we wait and hear only thumb-twiddling from the National Alliance.
PRESS RELEASE House of Representatives vote on the recommendations of the Committee displaced and read the initial report on 2014 budget
This is a long press release that details a great number of issues and hopeful resolutions that pertain to both displaced citizens as well as to the 2014 Budget committee that was formed on July 17.....it sounds like they are making respectable efforts in both areas.....not to say that getting a PM established and a new government seated wouldn't help this process along as well....to me the biggest part of this press release was Speaker al-Jubouri's initial announcement and concern over the lack of effort on behalf of the National Alliance in naming a candidate for Prime Minister....and that he now appeals to the President of the Republic Massoum, to come forth with a name for the position....
