SYDNEY, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Australia may join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and potentially invest three billion Australian dollars (2.3 billion U.S. dollars), local media reported on Friday.
The Australian Cabinet's National Security Committee (NSC) is set to approve joining the bank on Monday, according to leaked documents given to Fairfax Media.
The news follows Australia initially rejecting the offer from China last year, citing concerns of governance.
According to the report, the NSC discussions included Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss, Defense Minister Kevin Andrews and Treasurer Joe Hockey.
Australia will first sign a "memorandum of understanding" to enter direct negotiations on the final structure of the bank.
Australia's move follows the decision of the United Kingdom to join the bank.

EXOGEN: Taiwan interested in joining China-sponsored AIIB: finance minister
Taiwan would be willing to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) if invited, minister of finance Chang Sheng-ford said Thursday, adding that participation would open up a good channel for Taiwanese investment.
A multilateral development bank proposed by China, the AIIB is regarded by some as a potential rival to the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), all of which are institutions dominated by developed countries such as the United States.
EXOGEN: Japan, Australia signal approval of China-based AIIB
SYDNEY – The Abe administration on Friday signaled cautious approval of the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and said for the first time that under certain conditions, it could join the institution.
Australian Treasurer Joe Hockey meanwhile said there is “a lot of merit” in the bank and the Sydney Morning Herald reported that Canberra could formally decide to sign up when the full Cabinet meets Monday. http://www.ibtimes.com/japan-australia-signal-approval-china-based-aiib-1853472

EXOGEN: Switzerland to take part in founding of AIIB bank
ReutersReuters – 1 hour 30 minutes ago
ZURICH (Reuters) - Switzerland will participate in the establishment of a new international development bank backed by China, along with several other western European countries, the Swiss government said on Friday.
The Alpine nation will become a prospective founding member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), subject to approval by the existing signatories, the government said in a statement.
The AIIB was launched in Beijing last year to support investment in Asia in transport, energy, telecommunications and other infrastructure. It is seen as a rival to the Western-dominated World Bank and a major plank in spreading China's "soft power".

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Kurdistan region received in the semi-autonomous northern Iraq, $ 420 million of the budget dues of Baghdad on Thursday, a long-awaited payments would bilateral agreement for the export of oil to the track.
He said Finance Minister Hoshiyar Zebari told Reuters, stressing payments "mean that the parties are committed to the deal."
Baghdad had cut the budget for the Kurds payments in January of 2014 because of the region's oil policies.
He returned the budget to pay dues in December after Kurds agreed to export an average of 550 thousand barrels per day of crude from the port of Ceyhan through the government of the Iraqi State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO).
The agreement replaces a tribute as a breakthrough will help Iraq to increase its oil exports at a time when the country's revenues are under pressure as a result of the decline in world oil prices and the cost of financing the war against international Islamic organization in the north and west fighters.
And received the Kurds, except to obtain 17 per cent of the national budget for this year, amounting to $ 105 billion, which means that, on average, pay a billion dollars a month, but payment was delayed in February, which is the smartest tensions amid the difficulties encountered by the two sides in accordance with what he said Zebari.
Central government and the private face severe cash-flow problems under the Dat falling oil prices and the war being waged on the organization of the Islamic state in parts of northern and western Iraq.
The Kurds have sought hard to reach the goal of exporting 550 thousand barrels per day from their fields and national fields in Kirkuk, which are now responsible for the export of them.
Zebari said: "There are now different expectations from both sides." He added by saying that oil exports from the north now increasingly steadily and reached more than 300 thousand barrels per day.
He said that the two sides will achieve Ohdavhmha special payments budget and exports of oil by the end of the year, although numbers may vary from month to month. He said that Baghdad is expected to provide a further boost from the budget dues to the Kurds at the end of the month of March.
He said, "Both sides Eoffaan their promises."
The latest batch of budget dues may negotiate Zebari and Deputy Prime Minister Ruz Nuri Shaways -oheme Krdian- and Oil Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi
