This week’s video is not meant to bring sorrow but instead – to showcase the dreams and aspirations of a profoundly wise young man named Sam Berns.
This statement sums up Sam’s life so well, “No matter what I choose to become, I believe that I can change the world,”…“And as I’m striving to change the world, I will be happy.”
Sam Berns was a Junior at Foxboro High School in Foxboro, Massachusetts, where he achieved the highest honors and was a percussion section leader in the high school marching band.

He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Sam was diagnosed with Progeria, a rare, rapid aging disease, at the age of 2. He is featured in the documentary Life According to Sam, which premiered on HBO on October 21, 2013.
Sam left this world on Friday, January 10, 2014 due to complications from his rare genetic disease, according to the Progeria Research Foundation.
He was 17. He lived a happy life. ”All in all, I don’t waste energy feeling bad for myself,” he said. “I surround myself with people that I want to be with. And I keep moving forward.”
“It’s situations like this that make you realize how your own problems, however relevant, can seem so trivial and senseless in juxtaposition. It’s seeing the humanity, perseverance and strength coming out from him and piercing your own soul; it saddens, and more so, inspires you at the same time. Get up out of your complacency and do. This is real strength. RIP Sam.” – energ8t
“Seriously, of all the books I’ve ever read, of all the discourse I’ve listened to about how to live a good life, Sam Berns’ philosophy has been the best. He’s given a simple, realistic, formula which we can all follow. It makes total sense.” – J. Bison
“This is what hope looks like! “ – Dhanya Gopal
“Sam left an amazing legacy. May his life – lived fully – continue to be an inspiration and may his friends and family and all those who knew him or of him keep his legacy alive. May his memory always be for a blessing.” – JoaninDC
