Urgent .. Cabinet Secretariat: Disable the official working hours during the week in preparation for elections
I wouldn't expect this any differently....first DELTA reports to us that the COM has announced that Sunday through Thursday will be an official "work week" holiday....then we see WS present the news of the same information.....all in preparation for the upcoming elections on the 30th.....now they also announce that the election will be conducted in three phases, the 28th and 29th will be for the purposes of those abroad, and also the 28th will be a special ballot for those in security forces, the sick, prisoners, and those of universal suffrage, then the main election on the 30th. The holiday this week applies to everyone except those which decides the Minister and conservatives....sorry but you will continue to work.
Central bank: seven Lebanese banks have opened branches in Iraq
During the banking conference this week between Iraq and Lebanon it was announced that Lebanon has opened 7 banks in Iraq....these banks bring up to date technology that can be used to help other banks design similar technologies.
Washington sends more intelligence officers to Iraq to contain the violence
Just an idle observation on my part but I find it odd that there was a great deal of violence in and around Anbar at the beginning of the year, then it seemed to have subsided from the news for the last couple of months....now to rear its ugly head again just in front of the elections....but the US is sending more intelligence officers to help the Iraqi's strategize on how to best handle the terrorists.....at least they didn't say they would send Biden.
Organization to monitor the election: 84% would participate and 16% are boycotting the majority choice sectarian
Ok....some "organization"......notice how they never mention "what" organization has run a poll that indicates that 84% of Iraqi's eligible to vote will participate in the upcoming elections....that is a very high percentage....and 16% will boycott.....these must be good numbers as we heard earlier in the week that 90% of the required voter ID cards have been delivered.....so if the 16% who won't vote are in that 10% who didn't get cards....then we will only have 6% who have cards but don't care one way or the other.....just some aggie stats for you.....now for the real stuff...31.5% of those polled said they would vote on a sectarian basis; 17.3% on a religious basis, and 6.8% on the basis of nationalist.....I find it odd they didn't run any percentages on those who believe the election really won't matter this time....much like the last election where M just sort of "stepped in" and said....this is how it is.
Organization: 61% of voters believe that the candidates will not carry out their promises of electoral
Yet another "organization" making predictions....but this time we at least have a name.....the Organization for Social Development and Information Center is predicting that 61% of Iraq's believe the elected candidates will not carry out their campaign promises.....then look for someone that will....even if it is the janitor.....as many as 55% believe that voters will not be voting based on programs...and 19% do not believe that.....at the same time 49% believe that votes will be bought....an incredible 72% believe that election propaganda will only muddy the waters.....all these numbers prove one glaring thing....give a pollster enough numbers and they can create statistics.
Iraq’s Sunnis Increasingly Back Kurdish Independence
Sunnis are speaking out in increasing numbers supportive of any Kurdish movement towards independence....they do so in hope that the Kurds would then lend some kind of support to the Sunnis in their own fight against the Shiite led Iraqi government of Maliki....seems they are already believing that M will win the election.....guess that shouldn't be much of a surprise....both groups the Sunnis and the Kurds are being strangled by the government as things now stand....what I find laughably funny is that just this week Maliki came out and stated the State of Law coalition had formed alliances with both the Sunnis and the Kurds.....who is kidding who.
Abroad, Iraqis choose their representatives tomorrow in 19 countries
The Electoral Commission announced there are 785,000 Iraqis abroad that will participate in the elections in 19 countries at 109 polling stations....these locations are based on data collected from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the displaced, and the elections of 2010.
U.S. officials: "Officers from the CIA and the Pentagon in Baghdad to help Iraq in its war against terrorism."
CIA and Pentagon intelligence officers will be aiding Iraq in its fight against terrorism as the US increases the number of these officers on the ground in Iraq....the Central Command is working closely with the Iraqi Army but does not wish to mount a major offensive at this time because the Iraqi troops are believed to not be ready...again we see more news of impending violence ahead of the elections all of a sudden.
Pentagon delegation in Baghdad and Washington pay more intelligence officers to Iraq
So all of a sudden the Pentagon is concerned about terrorist activity in Iraq.....why now....why wait all these months....the concern should have been there months ago...but nooooo.....lets just send them some weapons and ammunition...but now just before the elections we need more "intelligence officers" in Iraq to help them understand what they already know....the terrorists really haven't been pushed out of Iraq....they still control large chunks of Anbar.....sad to say....but I believe Iraq is being used as a political football.
Governor of the Bank of Lebanon for "Qurtas News": Iraqi financial market is promising and positive indicators
The Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon stated this week that because of the size of the Lebanese banks in Iraq, they are of great importance....that the Iraqi financial market is promising and positive...meaning they believe there is much money to be made in Iraq....remember Family....a bank is in the business of "making money"....they want to see profits turned as high as possible.....while they say these 7 banks that are open now in Iraq are here to support the growth of the Iraqi economy....make no mistake they see big money to be made here also.....they would not be opening additional offices if they did not see indications that they themselves would fare well in this economy.
Citizens seem to lack optimism the next election
Iraqi voters are voicing their lack of interest, lack of optimism that anything of significance will change in this upcoming election....they believe it is basically predetermined and often driven by foreign affairs as to how their government will be shaped....they make it sound like Iraq is a puppet country being played by the world countries in control....probably not too far from the truth.
Bank of Lebanon: Iraqi our banks have entered the market to achieve the quality of financial boom and check frequently to avoid money laundering
The Lebanese banks are opening in Iraq to take advantage of the financial boom and they claim they will help against money laundering activities.....as I said earlier....they are in Iraq also to make money....make no mistake....the bottom dollar is of vital interest to them....and they see low hanging fruit for the picking in Iraq at this time.....they see good things turning to great things....they envision an Iraq on the move....on the grow....and they want to be a part of that.....the Lebanese are not the only fish in the sea with advanced technological know-how.....they are just one of many players.
