Thursday Morning News Summaries
State of Law: Maliki is still our candidate and there is no substitute for it
Can you say stubborn? I suspect that Maliki is going to demand his way right out of a PM position.....if he tries to go it alone, he could very well be left out in the cold, unless he has made some extremely big concessions to others.....like the Kurds, but then again......he has done that in the past and not followed through, so who would believe him this time?
Official Doubts Iraq Terrorists' Bank Heist Windfall
I said that I seriously doubted the original claims of what the terrorists "allegedly" stole from the banks.....where was the proof....would you believe a terrorist after all.....a few "million" is a far cry from "hundreds of millions".....but still is more than I have in my bank account today.....it is more believable.
Daash gangs hijack the government bank and steal the center of Tikrit, billion dinars
Sorry but I'm not buying this story.....after the terrorists have been in the area for over 2 weeks now, they just leave cash like that available to them....sorry but no.
Daash terrorist gangs hijack the government bank in Baiji and steal billion dinars
It is almost like someone has been following the terrorists and is running out of stories, these just sound made up to me, I'm still very skeptical.....don't believe all that you read......especially if you don't know the source.
Commission of the House of Representatives (officially) Mehdi al-Hafez preside over its first
The oldest member of Parliament will be calling things to business whenever it is that they decide to meet. They will then set about selecting a President of the country, President of the Parliament, and a Prime Minister.....simple enough process put all the names in a hat, first one is President, second one is President of Parliament, and third one is Maliki.
Kurdistan plans to increase oil exports to eight-fold by the end of 2015
Provided the Kurds can keep Kirkuk, they stand a good chance of seeing this kind of oil export increase by the end of 2015, that would amount to something between 8 and 10 million barrels per day....not bad for them.
The issuance of a presidential decree to invite the new parliament to convene on the first of July
What the heck, let's just drop the pretense of 2 days we will meet and call it July 1.....according to a presidential decree now.....they feel the need to keep the US in the loop on this decision as well....interesting.
A political source: Obama Maliki's request to resign!
Depending on your frame of mind this morning, you can take this as Maliki "slamming down the phone" on obama's request/demand to resign......or that Maliki has cut ties with obama after this "short" conversation with him.....I'm sure that either way Maliki is still fuming at the mere suggestion that he resign.
Iraqi Defense Official: Army Has Lost 7 Divisions; Losses at $10b
The media is reporting that the Iraqi Army has lost seven divisions.....that is quite a number of people....in my mind there is doubt to this as a fact.....this would mean that the Army has been cut in half.....nope still not buying that, I don't think there were 7 divisions in the north of Iraq.....IMO....this "Defense Official" does not sound very sympathetic to Iraq at this moment....meanwhile Maliki still has his nose in the air over the idea of attempting to negotiate with the Sunni rebels who are in this fight as well.....one has to wonder are Maliki's days really numbered.....he seems to be willing to fight to the last gasp....or until he is reseated as PM again.
Maliki claims against friends and foes to step down .. no signs of surrender
Maliki has no time at this point to listen to advice or criticism.....he is looking for courses of action and who can assist him in that action....the Iranians appear to be the most likely of choices.....he does not appear to be poised to seek any kind of negotiation between the Sunni's or the Kurds at this point in time....this leaves him still standing on the top of the mountain today....but what awaits him come July 1.....many believe he will remain as PM......but there are many in Iraq who believe he will be "dethroned."
Reform: National Alliance will announce the name of the prime ministerial candidate .. and will attend the first session of parliament
So the National Alliance will select and announce a PM candidate today or tomorrow.....why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.....so we wait I am sure.....and I will be highly surprised if this name is Maliki....meaning the NA will leave the State of Law coalition to go its own route in naming Maliki for a third term.
National Alliance: Maliki had agreed to step down from power Thursday night and fell today
Maliki allegedly said he would step down.....then reverses that decision this morning......I can't believe he would allow himself at this point to be as that wishy-washy.....but then he believes he will get 50 Sunni votes....what pipe has he been hooked up to.....Sunni's....really.
Supreme Council: two weeks to name the prime minister .. and to submit their candidate Year
Now the National Alliance is stating that we will wait two weeks.....get real.....ok, so in the mean time let's get organized with a President and a Speaker of the Parliament at least.....what is left to negotiate at this stage.....get on with the show.
Leader of the National Coalition: "Maliki" could not gather a quorum for the formation of the next government
So Maliki lacks a quorum, when has that prevented him from going forward.....he has what the other candidates lack.....power.....with that he has control.....to strip that control and power from him will not be an easy task.....watch Maliki and see what he does over the next several days.
Barzani in Kirkuk: We Won’t Give an Inch of Kurdish Land
Barzani is saying....we have the land...if you want it back....come and get it.
Israel President to Obama: Do not maintain a unified Iraq politically
Now here is some interesting advice coming from Israel to obama......do not spend your efforts attempting to unify Iraq in a political fashion.....
