Iraqi President: Meet His Highness the Emir of Qatar was friendly and frank
The high level meeting this week between Iraq and Qatar was friendly, even cordial....President Masum is wanting to implement some joint committees between the two countries....Masum left Wednesday evening to return to Baghdad.
House of Representatives resumes today's session to vote on the law and read the other five
Parliament will be voting on a bill that is associated with organizing and facilitating relief operations....they will also read five other laws today...pretty humdrum kind of day for them it seems.
Abadi called an initiative to develop the private sector and confirms: we will come out of the crisis, but they need to be patient
Abadi spoke today about recovery from their current crisis.....saying that it will happen but they need to develop the private sector and people need to be patient....putting emphasis on the private sector will bring diversification to Iraq away from being solely dependent on oil....he stressed that Iraq is not a bankrupt state but one that is strong....with reform success will come also....the BEST is yet to come....
He speaks of moving state owned companies into the private sector....he emphasized the need to grow in the areas of communication, transportation, and construction of homes and apartments....areas that can be implemented by the private sector away from government intervention.....
He talks about reducing imports to allow national products to take command of Iraqi needs.....he reiterated that the banking and industry sectors are weak and need to grow in strength if they are to help support the private sector moving into the future.....very comprehensive speech....but I do not see this as being his "surprise" that he mentioned earlier in the week.
State law calls for the amendment of some paragraphs of the budget
The first sentence says quite a bit to me.....State of Law....Maliki....just hot air at this stage of the game....all that remains for this budget to be opened is the Gazette....it is too late for changes....and who today is listening to Maliki and his cronies.
House of Representatives to raise its next Saturday
So basically the Parliament did what it said it was going to do for the day today and agreed to meet again on Saturday....the agenda for Saturday's meeting was posted on the thread for yesterday.
Infallible confirms the completion of the laws relating to the oil and energy sector
Do not be misled by the title of this article....President Masum is "calling for" the completion of the oil and gas law.....Masum met with a member of the Oil and Energy Committee where they discussed political developments, in particular the role of Parliament with regard to the oil and gas law, and the urgent need to complete laws that are associated with the oil and energy sector.....they also spoke of the relationship with the Kurds and the oil and gas agreement that was written with them in December....expressing need for speed in seeing these efforts through to fruition.
Abadi: The government approved the restructuring of state enterprises no intention of shedding workers
This apparently is PM Abadi's 10:00 am speech....he spoke from the Rashid Hotel and keyed up topics that really are not all that new to Iraq.....the transfer of some state owned companies to the private sector while stressing the employees of these entities will be left intact....he sees the private sector becoming the pillar of support for the Iraqi economy.....he stated that the private sector is in need of infrastructure, communications, and industrial cities to promote itself, while the government needs to support agricultural and livestock sectors to promote the creation of new jobs, promoting hard currency and reducing imports.....
Abadi wants to amend some banking laws that belonged to the former regime and are seen as one-sided.....the economic plan by the former government for 2013-2017 lacked any serious role from the private sector and banking roles were limited....the new economic plan creates greater focus upon the private sector and focuses more on unemployment issues than before....
There are other factors at play here as well and they all appear to be pointing toward an enhanced involvement from the private sector going forward with a renewed faith from the COM in the private sector's ability to pull Iraq through this crisis so they emerge stronger than ever.
Abadi called an initiative to support private sector reform
PM Abadi continues to reaffirm the need for strength from the private sector if Iraq is to emerge from their current crisis as a stronger country.....part of this he says will happen with the restructuring of state owned companies to increase their effectiveness and their contribution to building the Iraqi economy....he offered to the Iraqi citizens that success is coming but we all have to work together and also show patience.
Abadi: determined to develop the private sector and diversify the economy
PM Abadi stated that the government's intention to develop the private sector and diversify the sources of economy will be confirmed soon.....at the same time not having the total reliance on oil as their income.....he says it is the government's responsibility to take care of employees of the ministries, institutions, and the government, and it is not the intention of the government to reduce the employees of public companies......the citizens can expect closure to this crisis of today but there must be patience with the next steps towards the future.
Sadoun: the status of Kirkuk current contract requires new agreements to manage
A member of the Kurdistan Alliance is suggesting the need for new agreements to be drawn to better manage those areas that are in question concerning Article 140.....looking at the failure of the Iraqi Army to protect these areas in question and how the Peshmerga quickly stepped in behind the army and defended the real estate and people against the terrorist threats....this is worthy of following to see how these suggestions will be handled going forward.
Special / KRG city to "1.2995" trillion dinars staff and completed projects
The Kurds today continue to stress over the lack of money for salaries of employees....as a result the government is taking measures to reduce some of the stress by making cuts to those who escort political entities and also watch over party headquarters.....this being retroactive to December 2014.....some of their situation also relates to production of oil in the Kirkuk area that was recently hampered by terrorist strikes that set fire to wellheads in the Baker field and 3 of these fires continue to burn.
Ares Abdullah: Baghdad province will send a monthly salary and not a single payment
Baghdad will make monthly salary payments to the Kurds not one annual payment....this allows Baghdad to make use of this money in their pockets longer than if they had to cough up on an annual basis.
Iraqi Kurdistan needs an estimated US$ 1.4 billion in 2015 to stabilize the economy: world bank
Largely due to displaced Iraqi and Syrian citizens Kurdistan is facing a real problem when ti comes to stabilization of their economy.....according to reports from the World Bank.....they are in need of both national and international responses to effectively manage structural reforms to their benefit...they are hoping the report will help to foster dialogues that will encourage international assistance beyond what they have already seen.

2014 saw Iraq grow it's gold reserves by 48 tons in their attempt to diversify their reserves away from the USD....this essentially tripled their amount of gold reserves.
Iraq looking to increase trade with America
Iraq is looking for ways to strengthen its trading with the US....looking for ways to increase the volume of trade between the two countries....they are looking at memorandums of understanding, as well as dealings with third party entities away from interference by intermediaries.

Deputy Prime Minister Shaways spoke today with PM Abadi about the Iraqi economy and how it needs to be expanded through reform efforts....they must overcome issues associated with terrorist efforts and previous political issues.....these problems are being overcome but work is progressing slowly on some fronts....he is supportive of the direction to be taken in focusing on agricultural and industrial sectors and strengthening of the banking sector to help these entities as well.....reform is needed and seen as the answer to the issues they face today....this shows strong evidence of unity from the top of the political heap from within Iraq.
Alusi al-Jubouri and discuss the importance of understanding and harmony between the political blocs and reflection on the work of parliament
Speaker Jubouri talked today of the need for harmony between all political blocs along with the need to strengthen the efforts of all of Parliament working toward the good of the Iraqi people by reviewing the efforts of their work and ensuring they streamline their efforts as much as possible to get laws and legislation through Parliament as swiftly as possible.
Agreed to hold a meeting between the parliamentary energy and oil next Sunday to determine the provincial share
A meeting is to be held on Sunday between the Commission on Energy and the Ministry of Parliament to discuss a draft law to discuss a share for oil producing provinces as well as non-oil producing provinces and to monitor implementation of the oil agreement between Baghdad and the Kurds.

Parliament is set to create a permanent committee that will be charged with the responsibility of modifying the Iraqi Constitution as they deem necessary....the current Constitution was written at a stressful war time and many believe it can be improved upon today as conditions have greatly changed.....it also needs to be amended with thoughts of all Iraqi's in mind, all religious entities as well as political entities....this committee will be chaired by the Speaker of Parliament.

French media have written about a scandal starting in Switzerland that involves the three big political names mentioned in the title of this article....and while a photo shows four men....one of which is Dr. Shabs.....he is not mentioned in the article....we are talking about $1.7 billion dollars....oh the noose grows tighter.
Dawa party turns against al-Maliki
Even the Dawa Party is turning against Maliki....they see the handwriting on the wall and PM Abadi's seriousness about association with corruption and those believed to be corrupt....and they back way from Maliki...how very interesting.....your friends circle grows smaller and smaller.

Maliki is being called a traitor for not attending the conference regarding the victims of the Spyker Camp.....Maliki is said to lack courage to attend this conference.
Maliki: the issue of "victims of Spyker" the responsibility of the current government, not my responsibility !!
Maliki speaks out claiming that the issue with the Spyker victims was not his responsibility but instead is the responsibility of the current government....the problem does not lie in the follow up of the incident....the issue at hand is it occurred on Maliki's watch as PM and is his responsibility.
Four sub-committees to document the political agreement
Four sub-committees will be formed to watch and document the efforts toward the political agreement that is in place....in other words is PM Abadi and his government doing what they said they would do...how effect are their efforts....transparency at work here.....they will meet on a monthly basis.

PM Abadi stressed today the need for independence of the Iraqi judiciary and that his government has a paragraph that speaks to this effort.....he is strongly trying to move away from how Maliki attempted to strong-arm the judiciary during his terms as PM....Abadi sees them as a non-political entity....stating that everyone be subject to their rulings.

The Peshmerga is being supplied with more sophisticated weapons and apparently the US is depending on their efforts to defeat DAASH.....claiming the Iraqi and Sunni forces are not yet ready to take on that battle.
