Wednesday News Summaries and Commentaries
Initial appearance from news tells us the Parliament did meet this morning and it sounds like they did get the second reading of the budget accomplished.....still waiting on additional news to confirm if they did anything further with the budget at this time.
Police arrests gang after robbed 1 billion dinar from car’s trunk
A gang of 5 were arrested in Babel only an hour after they had lifted 1 billion dinar from the trunk of a citizen's car.....the 5 have been turned over to the judiciary for prosecution.
Parliament begins the second reading of the budget
Parliament is now back in session......they have read the Finance Committee's report of the budget and are in the process of the second reading of the budget....we await more word on the outcome of this process at this point.
Trgehaat parliamentary pass the 2015 budget in record time
Do not be misled by the title of this article....as Gearhead states....read it carefully......the budget passed easily through COM and was handed over to Parliament.....today they are doing their second reading of the budget.....has it been passed....not so sure at this point....this article if full of mixed "tenses"....."it will be".....then..."passed" as in already done....I think the bottom line to this is it merely states the budget will be "read" today in Parliament....nothing more....but I'm sure there will be more to come.
Parliamentary economy calls for activating the investment law for the advancement of the Iraqi economy
IMHO.....anything the Iraqis can do to rid themselves of past practices of corruption will advance their economy....this very definitely includes anything they can do in addressing investments through their laws.....they need to get serious when it comes to investment potentials and do all they can both on the public and private levels to assure these investors that their efforts and money will be safe in Iraq....I think they are actively working in that direction at this time.
Kurdistan Region’s Oil Revenue Hits $14 billion Over 11 Years
$14 billion dollars the Kurds have made on oil exports in 11 years.....not too shabby for someone that supposedly did not know what they were doing in this arena.....Baghdad is finally giving them credit for what they have been leading the way with for so many years......they are also exporting a significant amount of natural gas and that amount is due to grow by quite a bit over the next couple of years....harness that energy rather than let it burn up in the atmosphere....it's about time....the article also points to the arrest of 15 individuals for making oil sales to ISIS.....not a good thing to be caught doing.
Opening the Saudi embassy next week
This is a good thing....no....IMO....this is a great thing...for the Saudi's to bring their presence back to Baghdad after being absent for so many years....this speaks volumes to their belief that presence in Iraq is worthy....that Iraq is safe and that it is desirous to bring an embassy office back at this point in time...
it also points to the political clout that PM Abadi's government is swinging with neighbors.....the doors to Iraq are slowly creaking open again.....I think others will be soon to follow as well.
National reconciliation blown Alrih..qanon criminalize Baath up Parliament!
In the last 3 months alone of 2014 the new COM has been extremely busy in a number of arenas.....drafting a number of bills, memorandums of understanding with regional governornates......they have taken issue with the Baathist Party Bill, apparently wishing to leave any effort in this direction up to Parliament.....they have worked to address family violence.....and hundreds of other legal consultations that tend to bolster things for Iraq in many arenas.
Maliki challenged innocently Shabibi!
Maliki seems to not be standing still with regards to any efforts to clear Dr. S's name.....he has approached members of the CBI as well as members of the judiciary that he knows he can continue to trust....I would think that at this point....Maliki is barking against a stone wall.....I'm not sure how he can win this battle.....after all who really wants to listen to him today.
Gotta run to an appointment.....more later. Aloha Randy
