Samson: David Malbas as the new president of the World Bank

The World Bank announced on Friday that its executive board had unanimously approved the choice of David Malpas, the top diplomat at the US Treasury Department, as its new chairman, to continue a 73-year-old tradition that the US would head the international financial institution
Malpas was the only candidate for the post. He is currently Treasury Under Secretary for International Affairs and has advised President Trump's campaign in the 2016 election
A Malbas spokesman said Malpas would begin his new job next week during the spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund LINK
Samson: Expert: The decisions of the Arab League ended the abominable loans from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait

The decision of the Arab League to end Iraq's Arab debts by 75% will end the economic crisis in the country, said economic expert Basil al-Obeidi on Saturday, adding that the decision ended the abominable debt file by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
"Saudi Arabia and Kuwait gave Saddam Hussein's regime during the Iran-Iraq war huge sums that exceeded 70 billion dollars and after the end of the war demanded them as debts," al-Obeidi said.
He added that "Iraq and after the fall of the regime tyrant fired on those loans the term abhorrent debt because it does not have any legal substance but it is proven to Iraq by the International Monetary Fund," noting that "the Arab countries declined to reduce debt within the Paris Club for Iraq."
"Iraq is borrowing about 130 billion dollars at the present time and will be reduced to about 70 billion only in case of ending the abhorrent loan file from the Arab countries," he said, adding that "the reduction of debt to a large percentage will increase the chances of development Iraq and end the economic crisis in the country Fully and allow him to act freely towards future debt." Samson: Rohani announces the date of the railway project between Iran and Iraq

Iranian President Hassan Rowhani announced on Saturday that the railway project between Iran and Iraq will begin during the month of Ramadan between Shalamjah and Basra, while stressing that Baghdad and Tehran agreed that the two countries should link the two networks of oil and gas.
"The railway project between Iran and Iraq will start during the month of Ramadan between Shalamjah and Basra," Rowhani said during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and his companion. "We agreed with Iraq that the two countries should be linked to two oil and gas networks," Rowhani said, stressing that Tehran and Tehran "agreed with Iraq to build industrial cities on the border areas between the two countries."
The Iranian president stressed that "there is full readiness on the part of Iran to strengthen relations with Iraqi universities," pointing out that "there will be a meeting between the Ministries of Interior of the two countries to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism and drugs." Samson: The launch of the World Economic Forum in Jordan

Jordan's King Abdullah II on Saturday opened the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa, which Jordan will host for the 10th time.
A number of heads of state and some 1,000 business leaders, politicians, representatives of civil society organizations, international and youth organizations, and media and academics from around 50 countries are participating.
The two-day World Economic Forum will be held under the theme "Towards New Cooperation Systems". Jordan will host its meetings in partnership and cooperation between the World Economic Forum and the King Abdullah II Development Fund.
The sessions of the World Economic Forum focus on four main themes: the fourth industrial revolution in the Arab world, the construction of a new economic model, the future of environmental management in the Arab world, and access to common ground in a multi-directional world. Among the activities of the Forum this year will be a session entitled "Prospects and Future of Tourism in Jordan" to highlight the tourism sector in Jordan as an engine of economic growth and the investment opportunities it offers.
During the forum, an initiative will be launched to highlight the top 100 emerging companies in the Arab world, including 27 Jordanian companies, in cooperation between the Forum and the Bahrain Economic Development Board.
The companies were selected from about 400 companies and represent 17 countries in vital sectors such as education, energy, environment, finance, health, media and transportation. LINK
