Wow....shouting going on within the Kurdistan Parliament....they said....he said....who knows....but apparently tomorrow will see the election of the President and Vice President of the Kurdistan region....much activity this week for sure.
The imposition of a curfew starting from tomorrow evening
The Baghdad Operations Command has decided on a curfew for vehicles in the city of Baghdad, closing off all entrances to the city starting at 10 pm Baghdad time on Tuesday and will continue until the day after the elections....the curfew is intended for vehicles only.
Tomorrow electoral silence
Basically, if you don't have your campaigning completed by tonight, you won't get a chance to do any more tomorrow, nor will the media be allowed to publish any campaign material tomorrow either.....so speak now or forever hold your peace.
Experts: a market economy to achieve comprehensive development
How about loosening up some money to improve the economy and get projects back online again....oh right....that means the budget for 2014 must be approved....there are needs to improve the market economy, that which is made within Iraq.....with Iraqi materials...but so much is still controlled by public forces that feel it is needed to import products and materials....this is a slow change process....it is heading in a good direction....and change is always a difficult thing to embrace.
Jalal Talabani cast his vote in Germany ... and celebrations in Baghdad and Sulaimaniya
This article reports that Talabani participated in the current election process from Germany at a polling station there that was opened on Sunday and closed Monday afternoon.....there were celebrations in Baghdad and Sulaimaniya upon seeing Talabani's participation in the event.....doctors are still saying his potential date of return is non-specific at this time.
Integrity begins Bajratha to restore more than a trillion dinars smuggled out of Iraq
The Integrity Commission reported on Sunday they have recovered....what I am going to call a "sizable" amount of "currency" because they give two differing amounts in the article.....of money that was embezzled by Iraqi officials and removed from Iraq.....because some of these folks have dual citizenship....the process has been slowed somewhat.
Barzani: Kurdistan oil will be sold in global markets beginning next May
Barzani announced the Kurds will begin selling their oil on global markets come May 2....without the knowledge of Baghdad....it would seem that his patience has had enough of Baghdad's games....but how does this play with Maliki stating yesterday that after the elections the Kurds can have pretty much whatever they want.....the next few days should prove to be interesting times.....watch what they do....not what they say.
Association of private banks: our capital amounted to 250 billion dinars for each bank
It has been announced that the private banks of Iraq have each reached the required 250 billion dinars in capital....the head of the Association of private banks in Iraq has been quoted as saying the banks have made quantum leaps in progress over the past 3 years in deposits, credit and money transfers.....they continue to praise the influx of Lebanese banks saying they bring much to the Iraqi banking customers in the way of good technology.
House resumes its sessions after the elections and the budget on the first session
Supposedly on the agenda for when the Parliament reconvenes is the second reading of the 2014 budget.....there are two things that need to happen to make this occur....first the Speaker needs to put it on the agenda...and second there needs to be a quorum to make the reading official....both are important.
Iraq closes airspace from 12 o'clock in the evening until six pm on Wednesday
The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority are closing Iraqi airspace from midnight Monday until 6 pm Wednesday Baghdad time....as part of the election process.....the security personnel within Iraq will be voting today.....as well as those displaced, hospital admittances, and prison inmates.
Barzani: four days and Kurdistan oil will be available in global markets.
Another article that points to May 2 as the date that Barzani has stated Kurd oil will be sold on global markets.....despite no agreement with Baghdad.....or do they have a secret agreement that is being withheld until after the election process is complete....worth watching the outcome of this event.
Experts: solving the problems of the Iraqi economy depends on the system of legislation
I'm not sure that the Iraqi's really need experts telling them that much of their economic problems lie in the hands of their government....they are quick to want to spend money, but very slow in coming up with ways to ensure that it is done prudently and with minimal corruption involved.....they are able to make much money in the forms of oil revenues, but this is relatively easy stakes....low hanging fruit if you will....when it comes to other economic factors Iraq is lagging far behind others....they have allowed their greed to overtake their need to do things the right way....they have lacked the ability to plan effectively and without a workable plan things tend to fail, for lack of supervision, for lack of stewardship....for lack of many things....there is no doubt that during the former regime's reign many aspects of the country became obsolete because of a failure to stay current with the technology of the day....now Iraq must play a game of catch up....a game that is not slowing down the normal every day burdens placed upon both public and private sectors....this leads back to effective planning...a must from the top down.
