Thursday News Summaries and Commentaries
Ok, I'm getting a late start on things today, sorry had a prior personal commitment this morning that kept me from being here.....but here goes....
Still lots of good to great news being generated not only by Frank, Delta, and Teams....but also through the news as well....this continues to point to Iraq taking things to new planes and continuing to move forward in a manner that bespeaks a nation that has finally gotten their stuff together....but at the same time continue to mop up the room of any former riffraff that has been left over from the prior government....signs IMO....appear very strong.
Jeffrey: Iraq's stability depends on the presence of US long-term
Of course past US mistakes being recognized and today being remedied by their presence to assist with international assistance in stabilizing threats of terror within Iraq.....so long term presence is being seen as a solution for the future....we told you that two years ago.
Cabinet: Smart Card expansion of credit capacity of banks
From this and other recent articles we have been seeing, I would say that the Iraqi government and their banking sector are making renewed pushes to implement the smart card more and more into the every day lives of Iraqi's......they are being subtly trained in a new way of conducting business.....patterns....patterns....patterns.
Employer acted about 700 million dinars, end of service benefits for 265 retired workers
Benefits for retired workers....end of service benefits to the tune of 700 million dinars.....not al that much in the real world that exists in Iraq today...this is an area where it seems to me that things have a long way to progress for them.
Jamal Muhammadawi announce collecting signatures deputies to insert a paragraph increase in the salaries of employees in the current year's budget
The Virtue political bloc within Parliament is attempting to get some salaries raised in this year's budget....do they not see and hear the issues that Iraq is having with liquidity.....with cash flow....well I guess anyone can ask for anything at any point in time....just ask our own government and leadership.....so much for austerity moments.
Parliament to raise its next Saturday
Parliament met yesterday, they met today, and they intend to meet again on Saturday....busy busy busy....they are.....Saturday should see committee discussions regarding the special investigative committee looking into the fall of Mosul, plus a vote on the draft of the Ministry of Health Act, and a further vote on this investigative committee as well.
(Et) posted a surplus the previous budgets of $ 185 trillion
What an interesting find......I am amazed that we are just now hearing about such surplus over those years 2004-2012....Maliki's reign.....I know some of you have posted that this should dissolve the current deficit.....but I'm thinking in an entirely different direction.....I'm of the opinion this discovery has been made on paper only.....that the actual funds....they managed to "float away" in the past years....probably before they ever could settle into any Iraqi bank.....we already know that corruption was more than just rampant during those years.....it will be a strong curiosity to watch what if anything else surfaces regarding this money.....keep your eyes peeled.
Parliamentary Endowments: will be elected new presidents Sunni and Shiite Oagafin during the next two months
Improved religious relations appear to be in the future for Iraq with upcoming appointments of new Sunni and Shiite presidents for respective endowment entities.
Aajl..bde parliament session to continue reading the budget
Yes indeed the budget was on the agenda for today....a continuation of the reading that started yesterday....not sure we know the final actual outcome just yet...but suspect we can dig enough to find those results....there is some indication the budget will become an adhoc aspect of Parliament sessions/hearings until they find resolution with it....stay tuned.
Government agrees to impose fees on vehicles Law
Looks like the COM has approved a draft for taxation on certain vehicles that would include maintenance types of vehicles for street and bridge repairs.....this article also talks about replacement of MP's on committees.
More finger pointing it seems....one group saying they paid bills....another saying no they haven't all been paid......my money remains on PM Abadi and his crew doing the right thing....seeing that the right thing has been done, or will be done.....if there has been anything corruptible in the past it should be rectified in shortest order, or I would be totally surprised.
Urgent ..alajabura: next week is the announcement of the parliamentary committees, including the (amendment of the Constitution and Article 140)
This to me is big big news.....the formation of additional committees.....committees that I fully expect to see doing worthwhile activities on behalf of Abadi and his Ministers....this time pertaining to the Iraqi Constitution as well as with Article 140.
Assem Jihad: The ministry is not indebted to foreign oil companies
More talk on oil and payments made to foreign oil companies....to the tune of 70 cents per barrel of oil once production starts....an interesting way for these companies to operate.....so are there claims of $27 billion dollars being owed to these oil companies....I can't help but think/believe they were not being paid by Maliki's bunch....especially if they felt they could get away with nonpayment....poor planning in the contracts.....oh I'm sure that Shahrastani and crew knew exactly what they were doing with the contracts that were written back in 2009/2010.
Renewed diplomatic ties could lead to re-starting the oil and gas pipeline between the two countries.
Diplomatic strengthening between the Saudi's and Iraqi's could see the restarted use of a former oil pipeline between the two that may lead to Iraqi oil being exported from Saudi through the North Sea....the one aspect of this article I struggle with though is the mention that Saudi would give up part of its OPEC quota to Iraq.....wondering why this would have to occur since at the moment Iraq is not under the quota requirements of OPEC....this is all still in its infancy and has many details yet to be worked out between both countries.
Iraqi dinar exchange rate against the dollar
SAY WHAT......1 USD = 1138.87 IQD.....from out of nowhere this has come it would seem.
News from the termination Issawi file soon and his judicial whitening
Oxy-Clean gets the blood out.....it sure does M....it sure does.....the wheels continue to roll off the vehicle that he former drove....one after another who was accused are being cleared of wrong doing....and I doubt this is the end of the trail either....more will follow.
Well it seems I can't get caught up with all the news from today......I have to get a post ready for tonight as well....so need to stop here for now.
